s/v/c70 and s/v40 auto shifter change. ... How to replaceautomatic shifter with any knob and boot you want. - Duration: 6:12. Greg Green ...
Pry out bezel around shifter very carefully, remove clip/screw for shifter handle after pushing down small chrome cover on bottom of handle. Remove shifter cover (screws or clips hold it in place) to gain access to blub. 1/8 turn to left on socket and it is out
1Remove the bolts and nuts that secure the center console around the gear shifter with a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, a metric socket and a Phillips head screwdriver. This will expose the rubber boot. Pull back any carpet as needed to make room for the rubber boot to be pulled over the gear shifter.
2
Turn the gear shifter knob counterclockwise to remove it from the top of the gear shifter. Pull the rubber boot over the gear shifter and place it on the floorboard.
3
Loosen and remove the retaining bolts at the base of the gear shifter with the ratchet and a metric socket.
4
Remove the gear shifter retaining ring with the pliers. Once the retaining ring is removed, you will now be able to pull the gear shifter lever straight up through the console hole. Inspect the bushing on the pivoted area at the bottom of the gear shifter lever. Remove all of the damaged bushing from the bottom of the gear shifter lever with the pliers.
5
Place the new bushing over the pivotal ball end of the gear shifter lever. Hold the gear lever with one hand and twist the bushing onto the ball end with your other hand until the bushing locks in place.
6
Reverse the same steps as outlined above to reinstall the gear shifter assembly and the center console assembly. Make sure that all of the retaining nuts and bolts are tight.
Its the 'pink' thing. Remove the shifter knob, use a small screwdriver to pop off shifter bezel, un snap shifter cover, 4 clips, two on passenger side, two on driver side, remove 4 each 10 mm nuts holding shifter to the car. O.K. in the front of the shifter, is a pink cam, that prevents the shifter from moving, if the car is not on. It has broken. The small cable on your left controls it. Remove it. (disables it) Reassembel, and get the hell out of there!. Mark, 209-613-0092. Took me 15 min.
Remove pinch bolt from shifter. Remove shifter from shaft. You may need to spread shifter with wedge (screwdriver) to get it to slide off. Put on new shifter and tighten bolt to secure. A little blue locktight will keep it from falling off.
I have NO CLUE but it bet its a simple piece of Chinese plastic. Look down at the shifter, USE screw driver to remove shifter, remove Chinese plastic blocking the shifter from being pushed into HIGH by young child. Reattach shifter, push shifter forward to HIGH.
replace the shifter assembly.I replace alot of them.use this bulletin as a reference.Subject: Various Concerns With Shifter and/or Ignition Key (Replace Shifter Assembly/Shifter Components or Ignition Lock Cylinder )
Some customers may comment on any of the following concerns:
• The shifter is hard to move or binds.
• They cannot remove the ignition key.
• It takes high effort to rotate the key.
Cause 1 The shifter button may be sticking in the handle.
Cause 2
The pin that activates the micro-switch may have moved out of position (refer to illustration above). This causes the micro-switch to fail to engage when the vehicle is placed in Park. If this condition is present, the customer will not be able to remove the key from the ignition.
The illustration above shows the switch in a correct position.
Cause 3 Metal flashing left in the cylinder may cause a high effort to rotate the key.
Cause 4 The slider may be binding in the guides. This may cause the shifter to become difficult to operate.
Correction 1 Verify that the shifter button is inoperative by evaluating if the park pawl pin on the shifter assembly moves when activating the button. If the parking pawl does not move when the button is activated, the shifter handle will have to be replaced. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI.
Correction 2 Important: A change has been made to the shifter assembly for service. The replacement shifter assembly will read PRNDIL (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Intermediate and Low).
Verify that the micro switch is out of position. Replace the shifter assembly. Refer to Transmission Control Replacement in SI.
Correction 3 Important: Refer to instruction sheet that is supplied with the lock cylinder kit. BO 47869 is an essential staking tool and must be used for the repair.
Replace the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement in SI.
Correction 4 Replace the slide indicator and guides in the shifter following the procedure below:
Apply the parking brake. Remove the upper console trim. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement-Console Front in SI. Remove shifter knob. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI. Remove the indicator plate. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to release the locking tabs. Remove the shifter indicator lens. Pull up on the indicator and remove it from the assembly. Remove the two front rails by unsnapping the front and lifting up, and then back, to remove the rails from the shifter assembly. Install the new guides. Place the hook end into the assembly and push down. It will snap into place. Install the new slide indicator. With the transmission in neutral, place the slide over the shifter and into the guides. Move the slide indicator down the guides in the front and rear. Important: Replace the shifter indicator lens if damage is present due to the slider binding or if it becomes damaged during disassembly.
Install the shift indicator lens. Install the shift indicator plate. Install the shifter knob. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI. Install the upper console trim. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement-Console Front in SI. post back with what you find.
The lower shifter boot is attached to the transmission by 3 10mm bolts. You will need to remove to center consoule and the upper shift boot that attaches to the car to be able to remove the lower boot. Then you can replace the lower boot.
