Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR
I get the error message: Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4 54040990. I record direct from TV, wait patiently for the perfect moment to hit record, and WHAM! 4 seconds into the recording the same error message appears. I have gone through literally hundred of DVD+R blanks, with only an occassional toasted disk until my current sleeve of 50 Fujifilm DVD+R blanks. Out of the first 20, 12 have given this error. At first I was angry at Fujifilm for a low quality blank DVD, but now I am of the opinion I may have a low quality recorder. It has been over a year since the last post on this subject. Have people given up? Did you all buy new recorders or better blanks? The curious would like to know.
I, too, was having this same problem, and as the last respondent suggested, try cleaning the lens. There are a number of kits out there (I got a Philips for about $12 at Walmart) and problem fixed. Works like new. I plan on running the disc on all my dvd players and PCs. Good luck!
