Yes for dehumidifier, no for heat mode. In dehumidifier mode all the unit does is takes air in, runs it through the evaporator (cold) coil and the back through the condenser (warm) coil discharging dry, slightly warmer air back into the room. In heating mode however if you don't vent the exhaust there will be no heat produced. Warm air will come out the top but cold air will also come out the exhaust (essentially, in heating mode all it does is operates as an air conditioner in reverse. Hope this helps.

This is a single speed permanent split capacitor motor for the condenser. One of the capacitor wires shows infinite resistance to hot and netral. The motor needs to be replaced.

Tip

Dehumidifier VS. Air conditioner

A dehumidifier is basically the same thing as an air conditioner but both coils (condenser and evaporator) are in the same unit meaning a dehumidifier exhaust warm air in the same room it is in. running a dehumidifier would make an air conditioner run more because of the warm exhaust, when you run an air conditioner it acts like a dehumidifier and dries the air. As far as saving energy it all depends on the size of the AC and dehumidifier and the size of the room. If you want warm dry air, use a dehumidifier; if you want cool dry air run the AC but not both.
How do all these parts fit together to pull moisture from the air? It's fairly simple, but very effective:
  1. A fan collects air from the surrounding area and pulls it into the dehumidifier.
  2. As the air passes through, it comes into contact with the dehumidifier's cooled coils. These coils use condensation to pull moisture from the air. The collected moisture remains on the coils and drips into the dehumidifier's reservoir.
  3. The dehumidifier reheats the air and exhausts it back into the room.
A dehumidifier usually has a removable plastic bucket for are reservoir; most buckets also have a place where you can hook up a hose so the collected water can drain straight into a floor drain or pump. This frees you from having to remember to dump out the water. But don't worry too much about the reservoir overflowing -- most dehumidifiers also have an automatic shut-off. If you're using a dehumidifier in extremely moist conditions, however, or if you need to keep your dehumidifier on all the time, you should look into a unit with a built-in condensate pump, which regularly pumps water out of the unit's reservoir rather than simply relying on gravity to empty it as a hose does.

Is the dry mode on the airconditioner a dehumidifier

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers both work on the same idea. A dehumidifier is a "air conditioner" that doesn't run so good as a air conditioner, plus, it sits on the floor in your basement (where ever) and not in the window.

The idea is to draw warmer air (which holds more moisture) into the machine where it is chilled (cooler air can not hold as much moisture). The moisture is deposited on the coils and it drips either to a drip pan (where it runs out the back to the outside (AC)) or a catch bucket (in a dehumidifier and you either dump it in the drain or you have connected a hose and led it to the drain). The air that is returned to the room contains less moisture than it did when it entered the device. The best relative humidity is about 50%, BTW. Not to wet and not to dry.

The goal in the case of a AC is cool air (which contains less moisture) and the goal in a dehumidifier is less humidity (moisture), but not necessarily cooler air.

I am not familiar with "dry mode" to which you refer. You have mentioned your device is a Goldstar Microwave Oven so it is impossible for me to gather any information on your particular model AC or dehumidifier.

I hope this information has helped you today. Thank you for your interst in FixYa.com. Please make a favorable evaluation of this response.

Does the fan shut off once the air conditioner reaches the temperature selected by the owner or does it continuously run when the air conditioner is on?

If this is a multifunction unit (AC/Dehumidifier) and you have it set on Dehumidify Mode as well as AC, yes , it will continue to run. If you don't have unit like this, but maybe have an economy mode, it will continue to run for awhile too. If you have neither, then no, it should stop running soon after the compressor turns OFF.

Hope this helped you.

This is a quote from the manufacturer.

Dry mode is used to remove humidity from the room

off and only the exhaust fan will run. Fan speed is
pre-set and cannot be adjusted.

Your AC removes humidity and cools the air, in Dry Mode it cools the air but does not remove the humidity as much, which is OK in a desert (Las Vegas, Arizona, etc.) but not good for caribbean with the high humidity

What is the function of dry mode in ac, when to use dry mode, and when to use cool mode and what about heat mode.

Dry Mode in AC is to dehumidify the room the fan cycles on and off and the indoor unit temperature drops below freezing which causes condensate to collect on the coil and as a result the humidity level of the indoor air is reduced
