INSTRUCTIONAL STEPS

To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo show up on the screen:

How to unfreeze or reset an iPod Classic 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which may take about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Notes:

  • If you are having problems resetting the iPod, go ahead and set it on a flat surface. Then make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also be sure that you are pressing the Menu button towards the outside of the click wheel, not near the center.
  • If the above mentioned steps do not work, then you can try connecting your iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect the iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
How to reset an iPod Nano (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation) This one is similar to how you would do it for an iPod Classic:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which may take about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
You can also reset an iPod Mini in the same way as the above steps.
How to reset or unfreeze an iPod Shuffle 1. First , eject your iPod shuffle from iTunes, if you have it connected.
2. Then remove the iPod shuffle from the USB dock.
3. Move the switch that is on the top of the iPod shuffle to the off position.

5rs_reset_shuffle2a.png Note: When iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
4. Wait 5 seconds.
5. Move the switch back to the on position so green stripe will be visible in either position.
And that's it! Hopefully, now that you know these steps, you don't have to keep taking out the battery to unfreeze your iPod! Any comments or questions, make sure to write below! Enjoy! Source: Apple Support

Ipod will not turn on

Check to see if the Hold switch is on. It's located on the top or the bottom of iPod.
When it's in the on position, you'll see an orange patch.

To turn the hold switch off, slide it until you no longer see the orange patch.
Press any button to turn on iPod.
Make sure the battery is charged
iPod won't turn on if the battery is empty. Instead, a low battery screen appears for about 3 seconds when you try to turn it on.

To charge your iPod, connect your iPod to your computer's built-in 6-pin FireWire or high-powered USB port or connect it to the Apple iPod

Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
Note: iPod models without a Click Wheel cannot be charged via

USB. iPod shuffle requires a high-power USB port to charge.
iPod nano and iPod (5th generation) can charge via USB or FireWire, but they require USB to sync with iTunes.

If you are connecting via USB and the battery is completely discharged, there may be up to a 30-minute delay before iPod powers up. Click here for more information.

Ipod will not play properly after connected to Vm9512

Well, the screen issue you are describing with the ipod sounds like the ipod's clickwheel is malfunctioning. A malfunctioning clickwheel will allow you to reset the ipod, but not actually make selections. At this point, you can either replace the clickwheel or if your ipod is under warranty, take it in for service.

*I am assuming that you are actually resetting the ipod correctly. For example, when reset, after bootup, the ipod will ask you to select a language. If you are not getting to that screen when you "reset" it, then you are likely doing it incorrectly. If that is the case, I'd suggest checking your HOLD button before suspecting a bad clickwheel. Since there are slightly different procedures for resetting ipods depending on model and generation, I'd suggest doing a search online (or going to Apple's website) for instructions on how to reset your particular model. Note that ipod generation can be easily found printed on the back case of the ipod.
