Question about Dell Dimension B110 PC Desktop

1 Answer

System will not boot

Error codes received during diagnostic testing: 650F: 1342
650F: 0242
650F: 1A42

System worked last night, logged off but left system up offline. Then this AM first message was try F1 to reboot or F2 for system utility.

I'm just an average user so any help needs to be given in a step by step format. I'd really appreciate your input before scrapping the hard drive.

Do you have the original recovery discs for your laptop? If you do we can try to restore your hard drive back to factory defaults just to rule out whether its a software problem or hardware problem.

When you first turn on your computer hold down the Ctrl button and as you do that keep pressing the F11 key to see if you can get into the system factory restore screen.

Do you have your original system disks (windows xp)? You might be able to fix your hard drive with a chkdsk.

Hello
This is a hard drive failure.Try holding down the f8 key while booting up and choose command promt.
Once there use Chkdsk .

Here is a link that explains how. This will check the drive and possibly repair it.If not you will need a new hard drive

Ran a diagnostic on a SATA Disk Samsung HD160JJ1p and received the following error code: 650F:065D - Message IDE device failed. The self test failed to read a portion of the test. Will a chkdsk fix this...

No, chkdsk will not help: this is a hardware defect - part of the platter of the disk is damaged. The disk is dead, recover what you can from it and get a new one.

After i instul windows7 ultimate on partition cthe sond is stoped

Restart the computer and tap the f12 key as soon as it starts to boot up .
2. Select 'Diagnostic' from the boot menu. The computer will run its pre-boot assessment tests (PSA) before Dell Diagnostics starts. During the PSA you will hear some tones through the system speaker (but not through the headphone jack) but this does not adequately test the audio hardware. Dell Diagnostics plays an instrumental piece of music complete with drums, so if you only hear some tones then you have only run the PSA.
3. Dell Diagnostics should open after the PSA tests, or you should see an option to open it. If you have ever reformatted your entire hard drive then Dell Diagnostics will no longer be there as an option. In that case run it from the Drivers and Utilities (Resource) CD if you have one.
4. Select 'Custom', then the audio tests. (At this point - after you have opened Dell Diagnostic custom - if you can't find the option to select the audio tests that is a symptom of a failed audio chip.)
5. The tests will run. Alternate between using headphones and listening to speakers in case only one signal path is working.
The tests will play some audio and ask you whether you heard it.
6. If you don't hear the music during the test it definitely means there is a hardware failure somewhere in the system. In this case Dell will repair the computer if it is still under warranty.
7.If you do hear the audio during the test but not when you boot back into Windows, that almost always means the hardware is okay but there is a problem with the audio driver or with Windows.
8. Error codes: If you answer 'no' to any question that the test asks you, the test generates an error code that can tell a Dell technician that you answered 'no' to that question. The test does not know the exact component that has gone bad. Before answering 'no' to a question, make note of the circumstances at that point so you will know in general what the error code means.

The error code BI0HD-4 is a hard disk error. You need to delete all partitions on your hard disk and create new ones and format them
This will solve the problem.

Good luck and have a great day!

That's usually a damaged system file or a bad sector on your hdd. I recommend booting of your xp disk go to recovery console once you boot and run chkdsk /p and reboot when done.

Can't boot windows xp

it sounds like the easiest solution would to either run the repair sequence from a windows xp disk (may not be a perminant fix) if that doesent work just use the xp disk to format the drive and install a new operating system
