Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149 Notebook

2 Answers

White screen I have a toshiba m35x, with a white screen. I took it to e computer tech who said I nee a replacement screen, they couldnt do it , they only deal with DELL. I've looked up online computer sites for some info and have checked everything, including the taking the laptop apart to check the connections, they seem fine. When I hook up an external I get a picture. So do I need to replace the screen and is it worth it to replace or buy a new one? This one was given to me as is...

The screen is definitely bad, i've had the same problem. Go on Ebay and see if you can find a cheap working lcd screen for your laptop, if not then I would say replace the laptop cause it can get kind of pricey. Lcd's can run at least $150.00 and up and thats without the labor of installing it as long as you know how to take the old one out and put the new one in.

not true at all, the board behind the lcd where the cable plugs in controls the voltage thru the lcd cable and if that board is bad then the lcd will get to much voltage and that will cause the white screen and since its hard to near impossible to get that board replaced its better and much easier to get the lcd replaced.

Hi there.
What you have to do is take the screen surround off and unscrew the screen itself, carefully lift the screen out so you can see the long ribbon cable at the back of it, carefully remove the tape that goes across the cable and gently pull the cable out, if you have any contact spray a little of that won't hurt, if not just reseat the cable making sure its in nice and tight and lay the screen in the lid and rescrew it back.
Next, look under the screen for the inverter, you will recognize it because there will be wires coming out of each end and will be behind a plastic cover, unplug the plugs and then plug them back in again.
Reassemble the lid or the laptop if you have done that and boot the machine.
Please let me know how you get on

Thanks for choosing FixYa!!

No that is not at all true the LCD works because it lights up and goes white!!!!! if it was the screen it would not light up, this is a classic bad connection problem i have dealt with many times before

That's the inverter NOT the screen, and is located under the screen and is a common fix for laptops

Oh and just to add, if the screen is going you get black horizontal and vertical lines through it, it has bad pixelation or there is always a ghost image, these are created by the very fine circuitry that goes across the top of the screen where the ribbon cable plus into.

Take the inverter circuit board out and inspect it look for any possible dry solders, if you see one it will look mottled, so a soldering iron would be of use to you, also check the connections to the laptop motherboard and the ribbon cable itself check that for hairline cracks or tears, if you have any WD-40 spray some on a shammy leather and wipe where the ribbon cable connects to at the back top of the screen.
Let me know how you get on.

Opps i forgot, clean the connections on the inverter too with the shammy leather

Hi oysertails...
Try hooking your laptop up to an external monitor...if you can see the picture on the external monitor then your lcd screen may need replacement or the lcd inverter board.

Satellite (A75S206) runs well from outlet but never from battery. Was told that mobo can't accept dc. Need new mobo. True?

hello loyd516,

Have you tried a new battery? They are much much cheaper, and a whole lot easier to replace than a motherboard.

Here are replacement batteries that I found searching with Google.
http://www.google.com/products?q=Satellite+A75-S206+battery&hl=en

According to Toshiba, there has been a battery recall for your specific model.
If that is the case I would definitely contact Toshiba support about it. Maybe you will get a free battery out of the deal. Who knows.
Here is the link and the list(your model is highlighted)

Won't boot up.

anilkpa, I don't know if your tech ran a diagnostic or was able to.
It doesn't hurt to take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. If the mobo is dead I'd do what the tech advised.

Question by FJDM,
"SO WHAT DO YOU DO THROW IT OUT?"
Definately not. Did you buy this new ? As is ? What does your warranty state ? Usually a store will offer a limited warranty and extra avail thru the manufacturer or if you pay more, right thru the store. 15 days seems a little short in any case and you reported the problem to them BEFORE that period.

It sounds like what you're dealing with is a customer service issue, bypass that technician and ask for the Customer Service Manager.
