Question about Maytag Dryers

2 Answers

My dryer doesn't appear to be drying as fast as before.

My Maytag front load electric dryer (PYET444AYW) takes longer to dry than before. Is something burning out? Can I replace it myself?

First check with a clamp amp meter and see if ampage corresponds to dryer wattage, wattage=voltsxamps, when running,if not its an element or element connection problem,if ampage is ok check if vents etc area ok,lastly if heating ampage is cutting out before it reaches its temp its the stat hope this helps.also safety is foremost when checking electrics ,hope this helps

Most times this is because there is a restriction of the air flow leaving the dryer exhaust pipe. This will cause a buildup of heat and cause the high limit to turn the heat off. If clearing the exhaust pipe of crimps, dust or clogged line does not help then let me know. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Dryer drying slower

Check lint filter. Check blockages in the exhaust hose. Check that the flap outside your wall is not blocked and that the slats or flap opens OK. To get fast drying you have to have a good airflow into the drum and out of it.

My dryer does not shut off and doesn't get hot. It takes almost 5 hours to dry a load of clothing.

Sorry to say but it sounds like the heating element is on its way out... Happened to ours and repair was more than a new dryer so we brought a new one

Neptune glass front takes 4 hours to dry clothes.

make sure the vent system is clean. any restrictions can cause the safety switches to activate and turn off heaters. When it cools, the switch resets and starts heating. Unit will continue to cycle the heat off and on. Make sure all elements are working.
Start there.

I have a new (18month old) maytag dryer that is not drying as fast as it used to. Sometimes takes >80minutes on timed schedule to dry a medium sized load. What can be done??

Check to make sure that your dryer vent is not clogged....run a wire hanger through it from behind the dryer and on the outside of the house to see if you catch any lint. if you have something longer it would be preferrable. If there is a clog in your vent the dryer won't be able to vent out the moisture properly.

Help Changing Belt on Maytag PYET444AYW dryer

Normally if it is a front loading machine then you need to take the front of the dryer off.
This will expose the drum, roller, etc.
Remove the drum, install new belt on the motor pulley, loop around the idle arm roller, then install on the drum and reinstall the drum, reinstall the front and job complete

Longer time to dry clothes

Remove the rear connecting vent and run a 45 minute timed dry load. If it works correctly repair the connecting vent and or blockage in the wall.
If this does not correct the problem make sure the glow bar is cycling at the gas valve and report back for further repair.

My lint trap has very little lint.

Older clothes do not produce as much lint as new ones. Also, if your dryer isn't getting as hot as it used to, then you won't get as much lint either. Does it seem to take a bit longer to dry your clothes? Also, check your dryer vent, if the airflow is reduced, the amount of lint that is expelled through the filter will deminish as well. You may have a build up of lint in the vent ducting to the outside that is restricting airflow.
