Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

3 Answers

Gas entered the exhaust system and then oil reservoir. I got the gas out exhaust change oil. Mower runs but in question is gas still entering both places.

Murray Wide Body Riding Lawn Mower 14.5 HP 40". The problem I notice was after I mowed the lawn and mower cool off. I noticed a odor it was gas in the exhaust. So I took the exhaust off and got the gas off. I check my oil dip stick I notice it smell like gas. So I drain the oil out of the mower. There was gas there too. I change out the gas filter and oil. It starts and runs. I check the oil dip stick again it looks ok but still not sure is gas is still going to the oil. I never had this problem before and wondering why the gas entered the exhaust system?

The little solenoid on the bottom of your carb is letting gas flow while it is not runnung.therfore gas gets into your oil.About an 80.00 part..or you could just turn your gas valve off when your done mowing.but still you would have to eventually replace that part.hope this helps

Sounds like the needle and seat need to be replaced. It is leaking and not shuting all the way off and it will fill up and drain back into the intake exhuast and into the oil. Try a new needle first and if still the problem then replace the seat.

If the rings are worn and beginning to "blow by" sometimes it will make the oil smell like gas and turn coal black. In addition to making the oil yucky earlier than normal it thins the oil making it blow through the engine via the rings.
On multi cylender engines if one chamber is not firing it will send its unburned fuel into the exhaust but you would notice that the engine sounds funny and produces less than half the power it used to.

Clean the carb, gas tank and fuel line (s). Replace air filter with a new one, I wouldn't recommend that you run it without the filter because that allows dirt and grass debri to enter the carb, fuel line and gas tank.
Replace the plug with a new one that is recommended for your engine.
Check oil level.

Other option is lawn mower repair shop....

Hope this helps, I had the same problem.

see if the oil smells like gas the carb maybe sticking and gas gets into the oil washing the oil out this will make hard starting and smoke if so the needle valve is not sealing if you caught in time without major engine damage a sign is the oil being over full and smelling like gas

John Deere LA110 riding mower has gas in the oil

Try stripping it down and having alook sounds like the piston ring has snapped and is pumping gas into the oil that would explain why the oil is coming out the the exhaust the black smoke is just oil burning up ou also might want to clean the carb alittle too.

This cheap mower is blowing water out of the exhaust why

If water got into the fuel system, and the mower was tilted or tipped the wrong way, fuel or the water in the fuel could be inducted into the cylinder head. Make sure that the water is not gas. Also, check the oil level and the oil smell. If it is very high on the stick, change it. If it smells like gas, change it.

Lots of smoke and oil comming out the exaust . only 1 and a half year old

Has fuel with oil accidentally been mixed to the fuel for this mower? We have had mix oil accident get added it to this lawn mower and it will smoke a lot with 2 cycle oil.

Unless you are certain no oil is mixed with the fuel I would drain and clean the fuel system.
Replaced the spark plug with the new and replace the air filter In addition ensure you do and oil change every 30 hours using a high grade 30 wt oil to include make sure it is not over full.

Hope this tip helps.

What is the 2 cycle oil to gas mixture for a 2 cycle lawnboy

20:1 gas to oil is a good place to start. Some mowers thin down to 80:1. If you can tell me the model of the mower I can be more specific, but starting at 20:1 will assure you have adequate protection for the engine. If it's exhausting lots of oil smoke after it has warmed up; you can cut back a little each time until you have minor oil smoke.

at 20:1 you need to add 6.4 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas.

Here's a nifty calculator for various ratios:

http://www.csgnetwork.com/oilfuelcalc.html

Enter 1 gallon of gas, then change the ratio number and then press calculate and the number of ounces per gallon will be displayed.

Not getting gas to combustion chamber, leaking gas from exhaust

Definitely the carburetor. Take it off and look for something clogged. Look carefully at the gaskets. Look for water and dirt in the float bowl.
