Runs hot and smells
Kenmore Heavy Duty dryer. It's at least 8 yrs old(since we've been here). Runs real hot. Smells badly of wet/heat/dog when running. Cloths are very hot to the touch and stink. Recently stopped all together then after an hour went back to running/smelling. I vacuumed all the lint and hair I could find. Even up into the heating element. All to no avail. Any suggestions out there.

- Haven't opened it yet, but i can't hold drum in place while wife turns it on. I know stupid! But that makes me think belt is doing it's thing. I'll try to open it all up next.Solution #1

YOUR BELT IS PROBABLY BURNING UP
NEED TO REMOVE OUSTIDE HOUSING AND REPLACE
BEFORE TACKLING, HAVE SOMEONE TILT MACHINE BACK AND CHECK THAT NOTHING IS INTERFERING WITH TENSIONER PULLY
you can acess the heating element by removing the back panel
there is a slim chance that something- ie: elastic or other small piece of matereial migrated thru the grill and is in contact or in close proxcimity to the elements
when you looked uder dryer was there any fine black residue?

- the odor you describe sure sounds like the belt is breaking downyou can acess the heating element by removing the back panel
