Question about Nikon COOLPIX S9500 Digital Camera Black

1 Answer

Flash won't retract

We are currently in another country and before we left we bought a brand new Nikon S9500 camera. It has been working wonderfully until about half an hour ago, when the flash popped up as normal and now it won't retract. I have tried turning the flash off via the settings menu, turning the camera off and on again... We have warranty and extended warranty but are still on holiday in Bali for another week and a bit and I know that getting it looked at here will void the warranties. What can I do?! This is extremely frustrating from a trusted brand.

Page 27 of the user manual says:
Lower the flash by gently pushing it down. When not taking pictures, lower the flash.
The manual is online with Nikon USA. but here is the picture of that page. See bottom of the page.

My camera turns on and shows the menu icons on a black screen. I can take a picture, and the flash works, but nothing is captured. After I take the black picture it works just fine, though.

Please contact your nearest Nikon Dealer the connectors of the Screen at the back are loose / happens sometimes, as far as we had the Problems (owners of Photo chain stores) Nikon always regarded is as a Guarantee Replacement.

You've tried shooting in a dark room? With a fully charged battery? With the camera set to "auto"?

There is nothing you can do to fix this, it should not affect daytime photo taking.

I have a quantaray qtb-7500a speedlight. It is for a Minolta camera. Is there any way to adapt it to fit Nikon equipment? jim

There are modules available to convert the camera into a Nikon lens. Right below your fill flash on the left hand side of the unit, there is a square button to release your current module and attach the new Nikon module.

Nikon D80 - My (built in) Flash will not pop up.

That is just a mechanical problem. There is just a little hook holding the flash and it retracts when you push the bottom to pop up the flash. I'm sure it can be easily fixed, never the less your camera store or Nikon should take care of it. So take it back to the place you bought it.

Nikon coolpix 2100- out of memory- After installing 4gb CF card

4GB requires FAT32. Camera firmware only supports FAT16. 4GB won't work because FAT16 has a 2GB maximum size limitation. 1GB CF card is Nikon's "approved" maximum for this camera.

Catch: 22 1GB -and lesser capacity- CF cards are no longer manufacturered or generally available in 2010. When the current CF card dies, the still working camera also becomes throwaway unless you can source a CF card 1GB or under. 2GB may work, but with 'issues' per caution below.

CAUTION: Anecdotal evidence suggests the final release -& current- firmware for cameras of this generation is also encumbered by with a maximum picture number limitation of 999, realistic at the time of original manufacture when 256MB was a the largest capacity CF card but completely nonsensical now.

Summary: This is my first NIkon Digital camera and also my last.

Apart from the noteriety of the ubiquitous broken Nikon plastic battery latch, a major design flaw Nikon refuse to acknowledge or accept liability to rectify -since self-repaired better than OEM, Nikon policy on firmware support is complete abandonment of product within an unacceptably short service window. ie: a deliberate poilicy of enforced obsolescence.

Suggested Problem Remedy: Do buy a new camera supporting SD Cards of current capacities. Don't buy anything branded Nikon.

Metz 58 AF with Nikon d90 wont flash

Hi, Bad news for you.

Try this.
  1. put new batteries in flash.
  2. turn flash on off camera.
  3. listen for capacitor to squeal (high pitched whistle). If you hear it it is charging. If not capacitor is bad.
  4. Also should see flash ready light come on. If it does not same as #3 above.
  5. If you pass #3 & 4# above press manual flash/check/test button on flash. No flash means bulb is out. It can be replaced.
Hope this fixed ya. Please rate. Good Luck! Comment back if you need further assistance.

D40X flash problems

As the manual warns, never operate the camera (or any device, in general) if you notice something like that. Remove the battery, and send your camera for service

One can only guess what was the source of the problem. Did you drop the camera, expose it to high temperatures (e.g. left it inside a car in 40 degrees Celsius) or expose it to torrential rain?

In any case, how long it will take to repair it (or, more likely, replace it) depends on your local Nikon service department.
