Question about Canon BJC 80 InkJet Printer

Canon BJC 80 prints blank pages!!

I have a Canon BJC-80 printer. I currently use it with a hand held IPAQ which works perfectly. Recently I filled the cartridge with ink after it completly ran out and it would print BLANK pages. I keep running it over and over again to see if the ink just needed to fill the printer head(the green thing the cartridge clicks into). I then took an identical printer from my friend and took out his cartridge and put it in my printer with the same effect, blank pages. Then I took his printer head with the cartridge together and tried on my printer and it worked perfectly. What is going on??????? I have cleaned the head with alchol wipes, which I thought might have caused it but I have done that before. Please help!!!! Same probelm. It prints blank pages. I have it hooked to a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP Pro. Everything seems fine, it acts like it is printing but there is no ink on the paper. I bot a new print head but that didn't help.

I think u already solved your problem...your printer's problem is its printer head...u cannot solve this problem by fixing it yourself.all u can do is to buy new printer head at printer's shop. it is true because i got the same problem with my BJC 200.i do the same solution as u r and lastly, i go to the technician and he said i need to replace my printer head at some price.....just think bout money n i discover that buy a new one is better(as for my problem)

not to discourage u, but try to plan either to buy new printer head or buy a new printer....

hope this solution help... ; )

The problem comes mostly from the printhead. It helps to put a drop of water on the cleaning pad over to the right where the printhead parks, before doing a clean cycle.

BJC 80 w/ Vista OS prints 1/2 page and goes to error mode.

Purchase a PCMCIA parallel port card. That's a PC Card parallel port adapter. It provides a native parallel port to laptops that do not have one built in. Works perfectly in ALL cases, even with the scanner cartridge.

Canon BJC 80 prints blank pages!!

Power off the printer.
Unplug it, then plug it back in.
Wait until it stops its initialization sequence.
Press and hold the power button.
Allow the printer to beep 7 times, then release the power button.
This will reset the EEProm to factory default, and should clear your problem.

Cable for USB conversion

YES. THERE ARE SEVERAL USB-PARALELL CABLES CABLES IN THE MARKET. JUST CHECK IN THE WEB OR YOUR HARDWARE STORE. PRICE SHOULD BE AROUND 15 TO 20 US DOLLARS, DEPENDING ON BRAND, QUALITY, ETC.
SOME OF THE (MOST) BRIG A DRIVER CD.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD HAVE IN MIND IS THAT WHEN INSTALLING YOU BJC-80 IT WONT PRINT UNLESS YOU GO TO PRINTER PROPERTIES, PORTS AND UNMARK "BIDERECTIONAL COMPATIBILITY", THE GO TO ADVANCED OPTIONS AND CHECK ON "PRINT DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER", OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. (SORRY ALL MY SOFT IS IN SPANISH...) RESTART THA COMPUTER AND ENJOY. I HAVE A BJC-70 AND A BJC-80, USE THEM ON XP SP2 AND VISTA. BOTH WORKING FINE. DO NOT EXPECT SPEED PERFORMANCE. GOOD LUCK

The software package just doesn't work well with older peripherals that use legacy parallel or serial com ports. Too many sloppy layers.

THE BEST WAY to add an LPT printer port to your laptop is to use a PCMCIA to Parallel adapter card.
The PC Card slot provides access to the laptop's data bus, and the PC Card adapter easily sets up as a native LPT port within almost any OS.

There is no delay, or connection problems as I've seen in so many complaints about USB to Parallel or Legacy Serial adapters. Printing is Instant.

PCMCIA is a mature standard, and works seamlessly with XP and Vista, and almost any other OS.

PARALLEL is the old standard fast data protocol. IEEE 1284 ECP mode up to 1.5 Mbps.
The BJC-80 and the BJC-85 have the same print speed. The BJC-85 just added USB.

INFRARED is ver 1.0 on the BJC-80, and printing is a bit slower at 115.2 kbps. Even the BJC-85 with its higher IRDA transfer rating and a laptop's built-in IR port, the XP print spooler has problems with it, and can hang if printing more than one page, and especially with more than one document. It will not scan.

I use IR for printing single pages only with either the BJC-80 or BJC-85.
USB to IRDA adapters work fine, and are less expensive $5-6 than
PCMCIA to Parallel adapters, $20-25.

I have tested and used several PCMCIA adapters from different manufacturers, and they all work perfectly as a hot-pluggable, instant LPT and/or Legacy Serial port for my laptops.
TIPS:
After installing the PC Card driver, check Device Manager for the LPT port number.
Install the printer manually from the list of printers, and select the proper LPT port.
Most laptops have two PCMCIA slots. If you change slots, the adapter card driver may reinstall, and assign the next available LPT port, LPT2.

To scan with the BJC-80, you must have an LPT port.
The PC Card adapter also allows the use of the IS-12 scanner cartridge within XP or Vista.
Within Vista, set the Canon ISScan software to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, to allow use of the TWAIN driver.

Slow printing

Purchase a PCMCIA parallel port adapter. the USB to parallel adapters are a pain to set up and are flakey at best. The PC card adapter provides a native parallel port to laptops without one, and works perfectly in ALL cases, even with the scanner cartridge. In Vista, the printer may then be manually installed from its list of printers, and set to use the new LPT port.

Printer won't print

I have had a similar problem to this: I have had a BJC 80 for nearly 5 years and carried it around with my laptop using Win 98 and a par - par cable. It worked beautifully and successfully - so much so that when i saw a number of ink tanks going at very cheap volume prices in PC World i picked up a lot of them. Changing to an XP meant that i had to keep on using the par to par cable via a docking station but prevented my use of it with my new laptop - so when i brought it out of retirement it gave the blank printing problems yoiu described. By checking some error messages that it expected a black cartridge (which is what was installed) i found that inthe setup the software indicated it defaulted to colour cartridges. By changing this on the computer, it still printed blank pages but by changing the cartridge to colour it sprang into life when the set up asked for colour. I tried 2 other print heads which i had (3-4 years old) but still blank paper when printing to a black cartridge. I am now awaiting a new black print head carrier to see if it makes a difference. When trying with my laptop using XP and a par - usb cable it does not work at all. I have removed the sware driver for the Canon 80 and manually installed the one for the Canon 85 but no luck in printing to par - usb at this time

Canon bjc-80 - no print appears but cartridge & paper move normally

I had this problem too. It turned out there was old dry ink in there clogging up the printerhead and it was fixed after I ran the cleaning programme several times. However I can't for the lifeof me remember how to do that now. I know I found it online but it has since vanished. Maybe check your manual?
