Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Fails to lock

Back story:
Changed to clutch and everything worked fine. Thanks for all who offered advise. Left the front panel off for about 6 loads just to be sure everything was OK. No problem.

Left for vacation, and the kids came home from college. They tried to put the front panel on, and broke the tips off of the two lid latches. Solenoids still operate.

Now, when you start a cycle, the latches click a few times then fail to say "locked". If you cycle power and repeat, I get a FL code.

Magnet for reed switch is in place and attracts the screwdriver OK.

I really do not care if the unit just thinks the lid is latched, (even though with the shortened latch arms it does not), as long as it operates OK.

Got any ideas?

Joe,

You are going to have to replace that left lid lock, Left Lid Lock. You don’t need to replace the right just unplug. Here is what is happen. The left lid lock and right lid lock “Lid is Locked” signaling are in parallel going back to the control board that is why you need to pull the plug on the right lid lock after replacing the left lid lock. The lid locks are designed to latch into the lid only a small amount with them broken off the mechanism over shoots and a signaling slide switch contact signals the control board the lid is not locked “FL” code.

The left lid lock assembly is the important one with its dual signaling function, Reed relay and lid magnet to signal the lid is closed and the “Lid Is Locked” signaling. If you don’t replace the right lid lock (I would not) tape up the plug and try to secure the wiring harness to prevent the wires from chafing. I think you have the manual and Sears Parts direct info from my previous post but just in case; The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

Only the front speakers failing? All others ok?

There is NO configuration that would have NO front speakers.

Go back to basics, open the manual and use test tones for speaker verification.

It's called the clutch switch and it's supposed to only allow current to the starter when the clutch pedal is depressed all the way down, releasing the clutch. It's bolted in front of the clutch pedal. Yours must be bad or shifted to the left somehow. Have it checked, then repositioned or replaced.

Maytag neptune MAH8700AWW washer will not complete the spin cycle. It spins both directions but never goes past 6 minutes on the display. Eventually you get the "DC" error. It does this with or without...

If the clutch fails the first thing noticed is a UC or DC error displayed and there is no drain or spin.

If you are seeing the above error and having a problem with spin and drain then the most likely cause of this is the clutch. The clutch fails to lock down the spinners and the basket is unable to go into spin and without a 90 RPM there is no drain.

Replace the clutch.
