Replace Color Dev. Unit (Type B) alert

Just replaced the 3 color photoconductor units and the alert light won't go out. I think the colors were inserted into the correct slots. Don't know what else the problem could be.

You stated message said replace dev units. Why did you replace the PCU's? There is a difference. The color pcu's can go into any color slot but the deverloper units can only go in one slot. The dev units have a u shaped green plastic part on the front of them and just slide out. The pcus have a little lever and have to be released.

Prints with diagonal bars across pages we just changed the photoconductor kit still prints poorly

X945 Refile or replaced the developer unit.NOTE: if you remove the PC units on the suspected color and shine a flash light on the developer you should be able to see the pattern caused by toner not pushing completely above the auger system. This causes the spiral pattern. When you remove the developer and open it you should it is fairly empty inside. It requires a new box of dev-fil for the color. I would suggest 1 hour set aside to repair and make sure you get your ATC charts for the repair sensor reset/calibrations or you will have 88replacement errors later down the road and/or poor print again. hope this helps. Best bet is to call an experienced tech at Lexmark for a support call its a pretty messy and big job.

It's asking me to change the developer unit! What is this?

The developer unit is the part that is supposed to distribute the toner to the particular drum or photoconductor. a broken developer causes a faint or white line or even band in the concerned color. This is usually a difficult part to replace and the job is mostly very dirty. i advise contacting a technician.

What is replace color cpu toner?

Could the message have been "Replace color PCU (Type A)"? In that case, you need to replace all three color photoconductor units (order Printer Maintenance Kit Type 7100A).

I do not know of any Replace CPU error messages. I hope this helps.

Sounds like the cyan photoconductor unit needs to be replaced. Usually what ever the color dot is that photoconductor has a pinhole in it and the only to get rid of it is to replace it.

My ricoh printer is showinf an error of sc440-2

sc440 on the CL7000 is a drum motor error. sc440-2 is specific to the color drum motor. The problem is either the motor itself, the drum gear position sensor, or one or more of the color photoconductor units. The photoconductor units you can replace yourself if you have extras -- see if that will clear up the problem.

If they don't, you'll need to contact a service technician to inspect (and replace if need be) the motor and sensor.

Please rate this solution if it was helpful. Thanks!

I have HP4500 printer that printer printing gray/brown type back ground with the print text. same back ground color found when i see the imaging drum and transfer belt.

This is usually a sign of the photoconductor in the drum unit (C4195A) degraded by exposure to light. It will show toned background as you describe after as little as 20 seconds in sunlight, or 3 to 5 minutes in indoor light. The drum kit should always be protected from light by its heavy black plastic bag, or kept inside the top drawer of the printer (keep closed).

Lexmark C522 color printer has black smudges on copies.

It's more than likely a scratch on the photoconductor unit. I had to replace one last week. If you have a spare, try to replace it to confirm.

Vertical streak near left edge of printouts....only affects black portion of print image

Where best to look will depend a little on the nature of the smudge. If what you're looking at is white, then you might just have a little heap of toner or paper dust on part of the LED array that paints the picture onto the photoconductor drum (look for a narrow unit that stretches full width, adjacent to the drum. Dark marks may, if you're lucky, be down to dirt on charger wires. Both respond well to cleaning with a vacuum and a soft cloth (be very gentle if cleaning the wires). I would be inclined to trust the existing photoconductor unit unless you know it's been abused (e.g. by leaving it lying around in daylight) or the coating on the drum is visibly damaged. A.
