hi garethmt, i'm sorry for that and thank you for taking the time to respond.

yesterday i managed to connect to the internet via my laptop (has a netgear adapter) by disabling my firewall (norton antivirus). but, when the firewall is enabled again and i tried to connect, it won't.

i don't know how to tell norton to let my laptop connect at all times without disabling it. is there a way to do this?

thanks for any suggestions you may have!

hello again, garethmt. i'm using Norton 360 on both computers (pc. where the router is connected) and my laptop.

i'm at a loss, i don't know if it's the norton or something else. it's like my local access is limited. i keep getting a message saying to view the wireless network security settings and then type the correct network security key.

when i do type it in, it says the parameter is incorrect. i don't know how to correct this, maybe this is the reason why i can't connect to the interent on my laptop?

thank you for your time and suggestions.

You should be able to configure the Norton Firewall to allow all outgoing connections in the main console. What version of Norton are you using? Please note OUTGOING only.

OK, I understand better now. How does your desktop machine connect to the Wireless network, through an internet router with wireless? Normally on the bottom of the router it has a label showing the wireless security settings; make sure you use the correct type of encryption (WEP, WPA and WPA2 are all different types)

Your laptop should detect the network, then ask you to connect; you then select the authentication (open) and encryption (as per the router label). I am assuming that you have enabled "internet connection sharing" on the PC interface that is connected to the router, so your laptop should get a network address from your PC once it connects.

I cannot print from laptop to wireless hp j4680 printer

Hi
one possible cause for this could be your connection setup. Make sure your antivirus is not blocking incoming connections from other wireless devices. You must disable your firewall for your wireless connection to be accessible to other wireless devices. If you're using norton then your firewall is managed by norton, so you should disable the firewall from the norton interface. Hope this works.

Cannot connect to internet - get told cannot connect the web page. No addresses connect....

it is almost certainly your firewall or other security software blocking the connection Make sure that your firewall program is configured to allow internet access.Besides personal firewalls, other security programs, including Norton or Symantec Antivirus, can block internet access or cause other connection issues, especially after the browser is updated.

You need to remove Norton using the Norton Removal Utility:

Symantec Client Firewall is blocking my Internet connection

I would recommend disabling the Norton firewall portion of the software, keep it's antivirus side if you wish, and use Windows Firewall for best compatibility.

Did you download it illegally? Regardless, Norton sucks and you need to get rid of it. Most likely The firewall in Norton is blocking access from the program on your computer. Open Norton and Find the Firewall settings (i havent used norton in many years so i forgot where it is; Possibly udner configure or settings or something). Allow access to the program through the firewall and if you bought it then allow full internet access to it as well. Hope that helps :)

Cannot activate norton 360

Hi Uptonmark,

I have come across this problem on a norton 360 antivirus solution before. It would also get pretty complicated if you're using vista. However, one of the first things you should do when using any antivirus is to tell the windows OS (be it vista or XP), that your anti virus is taking over the firewall + antivirus activities of the computer. So, what you might wanna do is:

1. Launch norton 360 and check to see if your outbond traffic is being blocked. Your outbound traffic to connect to the server should NOT be blocked and sometimes in 360, it is blocked by defualt.

2. Go to the control panel. Under security, define norton 360 as your firewall and anti virus. If you can afford it, disable windows firewall (since norton 360 is taking care of that problem).

3. After these settings, restart computer (for any process changes to take effect) and try to connect and see.

Hope the above suggestions help. Also, when defining your whitelist (a list of programs that are allowed to traffic in and out through your firewall), try to allow as much as programs possible (those that you deem important enough(, to prevent such an incident like this from ever happening again. Or you could take the route that i took... get bitdefender. Less complicated and more advanced security options. Norton 360 is good too, but for my personal computer, i;d stick with bitdefender any day. Hope the above helps. Let me know if the suggestions work out, else i can instruct in more detail. Thanks.

Regards,

Techomancer.
