It sounds like your having a system board problem, you will need to take the machine into a repair shop to have it looked at and make sure that it's still plugged into the system board correct.

You can also try hooking up an external keyboard to the laptop in the meantime.

Keyboad stopped working on toshiba

If spill damage, you need replacement, cheapest from ebay and easy to change by yourself.
If caps lock light turns on and off when you press it,then try uninstalling keyboard driver in windows while online and it will automatically reload correct driver, other than that, also check if there is a function button for keyboard to turn it off and on by pressing fn key and keyboard symbol key usually on the F keys somewhere with some toshiba models..

Light for caps lock will not come on

I have reviewed your problem and have the fallowing for you to aces.
First, If when you hit the cap lock key the cap lock works, the key board is OK and you may have just blown a led.
If your cap light does not work correctly when hit, you will need to replace the keyboard.
cost is about $16.00 plus shipping on ebay.

The m and caps lock keys on my Toshiba satellite

Bad keyboard. This series have a higher frequency of keyboard problems because ... well .. the keyboard cable got folded by design. Just replace it. The A40's uses the same keyboard as a A10, A15, A55, A60, A64, 1400, 1405, 1410, 1415, 2400, 2405, 2410, 2415 ... and many others. A new replacement keyboard should run about $20 on eBay.

Replacing the KB is easy: lift up the power button board above the keyboard, remove the three screws holding the keyboard down, then remove the keyboard connector cover panel, and you'll be able to disconnect the keyboard.

Start up

yr problem should be from the screen to really confirm if yr laptop is truly on cos u dont just gudge by seing the power led on. to check if yr system is on press the caps lock key or press the fn+num lock key if the indicator led comes on then yr system os on now troubleshoot yr screen by checking the module, connector n fuses. if the caps lock led doesnt come on then yr system just powered on because it saw a power source in that case try to replace the memory(ram) next the processor.
guess this helps
thanks for using fixya
