Problem with Sharp Notevision PG-M20X Multimedia Projector

Blinking Red Light

On my projector. I plug it in, and the power light just blinks red. Nothing else happens or works. I took it apart and everything looks all right, and the fuse works. But I don't know what could be wrong.

    • Same. It was working fine all these days. I didint use it for two weeks and now it is blinking red power led. 700+ hours left on the lamp. I just got a new screen and all, really disappointing that it died on me now.

    • just got my friend's old PG-M20X and I've got the same problem. I briefly (2 minutes) got a green light. Now, I just get a flashing red light. :(

    • I reset the unit according to instructions and it worked fine for about 6 hours and then the sane problem again - switching itself off and that blinking red light which should indicate bulb has blown. Bulb has at least 70% life left. I even took it to lab for repair t a cost of $300 and a wait of 6 weeks and they said they changed the bulb. Then 40 hours later same problem. I think it's a built in problem.I feel I've been ripped off.

    • Same blinking red power light, no fan, no light. In reading other forums, there is a mention of a firmware upgrade. Something tells me this is not a user available upgrade and Sharp gets pretty pricey on repairs with color wheels and power supplies, and of course, just for good measure a new bulb. You'll be looking at $850+ in repairs. Hope someone finds a cheap fix.

    • I also have the blinking red power light. Nothing else works...it will not turn on at all. The bulb looks good, so I'm not sure if buying a new lamp will fix it or not.

    • I plug in the projector, and it will not start. The power button simply blinks red.

Best Solution

I had the same problem with the blinking red light. I looks as if realy RL701 on the main power board is the problem. I removed the cover of the relay and cleaned the contacts. Despite the contacts being worn down it worked great. I have ordered a new relay from Sharp for about $35 to replace it (part # 95CK3102AL001).

kc5mgc! THANKS! After 3 years of sitting on a shelf your suggestion solved my problem. Pop'd out the relay cleaned the contacts soldered it back in and it back up and running! THANKS AGAIN!

kc5mgc! Your advice is great. We have fixed our problem with blinking red light "power" by cleaning the contacts of RL701. I decide to add photo cause we have some difficulty to locate the RL701. The most problem was to remove the cover from RL701.

I had the same problem with my PG M20x. A friend of mine and I took it apart and found that the main power wire that runs to the lamp ignition, and then to the actual lamp, came unplugged. We plugged it back in and everything works. We aren't sure how it came unplugged, but we assume it may have been dropped at some point.
