Basically, the HPSU-0004 Error states that one or more DLLs (libraries) needed for the Update utility to run are missing.

The libraries were deleted, or pointers to irrelevant libraries were left in the Registry.

2 Possible Solutions:

The EASY solution:

1. Remove all of your HP (Hewlett Packard) Printer software from your computer and do a fresh install from the CD that came with your printer.

The Hard Solution (only do this if the easy one doesn't work):

1. Download a current version of the FULL drivers+applications (single HUGE file) for your printer;

2. Start running the file downloaded in the previous step, until it offers the option to install the software (other options might be there, such as "read the Readme file");

3. Do NOT click on "Install", but rather simply exit the Installer (cancel, exit, ...) - the reason for step 2. above was to just have the downloaded file extract in an orderly manner all the files that it (and YOU) would use for its (and YOUR) further processings;

4. Locate on on your drive the installation folder created in step 2., and -- under it - the folder "setup\hpupdate" (the whole thing should be located somewhere under the TMP or TEMP folder - just run a Search/Find for it, using your search engine of choice);

5. IF (and only if) you have located the HPUPDATE folder in the previous step (you will, normally), continue:

6. Under Windows Control Panel, start the "Add/Remove Programs" applet, and -- in the list of applications it presents -- look for "HP Update";

7. Remove the HP Update application as you would any other application (the uninstall process might end with some errors for files not found - this is normal in this case, as we already know that some files are either missing, or mistakenly pointed at, as stated earlier in this text);

8. Now go to the setup\hpupdate folder located in step 5. above, and run (double-click on) the only *.msi fie found within it (this will reinstall the version downloaded of the HP Update utility);

9. When Installation (previous step) is completed, run the newly installed HP-Update utility, to find further updates both for itself (you might not have had the most recent version) and for any other HP application that might reside on your drives.

10. This completes the process

Good Luck!

I can send faxes, but can not receive them? Solution?

I would uninstall it and reinstall making sure that you don't miss a little unchecked box and that you have the correct number and applications installed. At least you would be renewing the driver and, very often, this can fix the problems you have. Go onto the support page at HP and look in the FAQ's. You won't be the 1st to have this problem. Hope that helps.

Unable to install anything on my e63, especially themes

The errors are caused because of the security measures introduced into the new version of Symbian Series 60 mobile operating system disallowing installation of old applications and invalid certificates, however bypassing this security feature and fixing these certificate errors to install themes and softwares is very easy, simply follow the instructions below:
  1. Open you mobile main Menu.
  2. Navigate to Settings -> General -> Date and time
  3. Now change the year back one year.
  4. Now install the application.
  5. Don't forget to change date back to original.
If the above does not solve the problem goto Application Manager > Options > Settings and set "Online Certificate check" = Off and Software Installation = All.

I am out of ink cartridges (none in the printer) but I just want to scan can I do this?

You can still scan using either the command menu on the scanner or the HP software from you computer. As long as you are not trying to print, having no ink should not effect the scanning.
If you have the HP solution center software, you can open that application and pick scan a document or scan a picture.
From the PSC 1610v controls follow these directions:

Scan to an application

You can scan originals placed on the glass directly from the control panel.

1. Load the original face down on the right front corner of the glass.

User Guide 59

Use the scan features

2. In the Scan area, press Scan To.

The Scan To menu appears. The Scan To menu lists destinations, including

applications, for anything you scan. The default destination is the one you

selected the last time you used this menu.

The Scan To menu can be configured. You can designate which applications and

other destinations appear on the Scan To menu by using the HP Image Zone

software on your computer.

3. To select an application to receive the scan, press until the destination you

want appears on the control panel display, and then press Start Scan.

A preview image of the scan appears in the HP Scan window on the computer,

where you can edit it.

For more information about editing a preview image, see the onscreen HP Image

Zone Help that came with your software.

4. Make any edits to the preview image in the HP Scan window. When you have

finished, click Accept.

For more information on editing a scan in the HP Scan window, see the onscreen

HP Image Zone Help.

The HP All-in-One sends the scan to the selected application. For example, if you
chose the HP Image Zone, it automatically opens and displays the image.

HP Office Jet 6110 All in One faxing

This document covers the basic fax functions of the HP Officejet 6100 series. The HP Officejet 6100 series can perform the following functions:
  • Send and receive paper faxes.
  • Send and receive color faxes. Color faxes can be sent only to color fax capable machines. If a color fax is sent to a black-and-white only fax machine, the HP Officejet sends the fax in black and white.
See Figure 1 below to identify the buttons in the Fax area of the front panel. Figure 1: Identifying the fax area of the front panel c00259777.gif 1- Turns Auto Answer on or off 2- Scrolls through speed-dial entries 3- Redials the most recently dialed number 4- Dials fax numbers, enters text, and specifies menu items. 5- Starts a fax 6- Changes the fax resolution 7- Dials one-touch speed-dial numbers Fax settings Most fax settings are configured during installation through the Fax Setup Wizard. Using a hard drive for running programs

Hi ambladybut

It's true, you CAN choose to install applications to a drive other than the usual default location of c:\program files\newsoftwareprogram

However---- the operating system will still need to know all about these applications. It will keep information about these applications stored in locations on the laptop's internal hard disk, including in your user profile directory (c:\documents and settings\youruserprofile (if you're using WindowsXP)), the system registry, and various other locations depending upon the software.

These applications will also install shortcuts for accessing them to the Start Menu and Desktop.

Finally, where they store their data (unless you configure them differntly) will also be saved to the laptop's internal hard disk.

So, whether installing the applications to an external hard disk will achieve what you are attempting to accomplish will depend upon your reasons for doing so:

(A) Do you want to use the external hard disk in order to save space on the laptop's hard disk? If that is the case, then using the external hard disk would meet your needs.

(B) Do you want to use the external hard disk for privacy or security reasons? If that is the case, then an external hard disk would not be the appropriate solution for you.

In the case of (B), there are other solutions. Rather than delve into them yet, let's find out what you would like to accomplish w/ respect to segregating your home and work applications. Then we can point you in the appropriate direction.
