Question about Panasonic PT LC75U Multimedia Projector

Presentation mode is off in laptop

Hi when i am unable to attach my laptop with lcd as it is showing presentation mode is off Hi I have a similar issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and my wife has a Dell Inspiron 1300. The Intel graphics card is the same in both. When I connect my 6400 to a data projector it allows any presentation mode to be selected and works straight away. With the 1300 I can only get the laptop screen or the external screen but not both. I have gone into Control Panel on the 1300 and used the graphics card utility to enable dual display or clone display mode and that doesn't make any difference, and I don't have to do that with the 6400. It is just set on 'Notebook'. Any ideas?

    Hi again

Have followed your suggestions with mixed results, as the 2 laptops still operate differently. I'll try to be brief.

Checked settings and can see 2 monitors displayed on both laptops whether plugged in to projector or not. Hovering mouse over 'monitor 2' says 'Not active' on both laptops. The 6400 works exactly as you would expect, giving all 3 display modes and able to toggle between all 3. I can open a Powerpoint presentation in .pps mode and see the slides in full screen mode on the laptop and projected on the screen. It does seem to need to be on 800 x 600 resolution to see the full screen.

The 1300, when presentation mode selected, displays the normal desktop with icons showing on its screen. The projector however is showing the desktop background with no icons or mouse movement. It is also twitching/distorting at the top of the image. If i open a powerpoint presentaion in .ppt format, go into 'Set slide show' and set it to show on the monitor and start the slide show, voila. Except that the twitching/distortion at the top remains, and the slide transition is a bit laborious. Also the view is different on the laptop, where it is still showing the slide view rather than the presentation view. Also I can't start a .pps file this way as I can't get to the settings of course. My wife is technology averse and needs to be able to plug this in, click on a .pps presentation scroll thru the presentation and finish. All possible on the 6400 but not on her 1300.

    There, I said I'd be brief, didn't I?

    Hi and thanks again

Spoke with Dell before I started the post here and they also suggested a driver update. Downloaded the appropraite driver from their website, and uninstalled the existing one in Control Panel/Add Remove Programmes. Trouble is, on restart it automatically found new hardware and re-installed the old driver. I tried to run the exe of the downloaded one but it failed. Not sure how to overcome this?

Hi (maybe for the last time)

Managed to update the drivers after much mucking about, restore points and I don't know what all. Eventually had to do it in safe mode....don't ask.

Fixed the problem except for the twitching which is continuous and unacceptable for a presentation. Will try a different cable just to be sure, but this one works fine with the 6400. Who knows. Anyway thanks for your attention. It's been nice to know someone is listening.

Good catch on the 800x600 resolution! Most projectors (except for the high end models), have to have 800x600 to display the image. However, the twitching/distorting at the top of the image tells me you either have a graphics driver issue or possibly a bad cable. Assuming you're switching between the 6400 & the 1300, it's not the cable. Could it be the connector on the laptop? Given your test results, I'd say it's definitely something with the 1300. Still leaning toward a driver update.

Your laptop has to know an external monitor or projector is attached before the projector will see any signal coming to it. Right-click anywhere on the desktop & go to Settings and verify that it shows a second "monitor" is attached. Then turn on the projector & try it. By presentation mode I assume you're using PowerPoint? Again, the notebook has to have a second output 1st. Then check that you have Display on secondary monitor selected. Then start presentation mode. It's a sequence thing, try it and let me know.

The Presentation Mode feature is NOT included in windows 7 starter, but only in Professional or above editions. (Some reviews about Home Premium say it is included also in this edition but that's not the case).

Instead of presentation mode I use another software, it's a small program called Caffeine (what it does is best described by it's name: it keep the computer "awake", not entering screen saver or standby).

A download link for you is here:

Hope it helped,

Charles - does the laptop have an alternate function button that allows for different displays? Similar to the presentation mode, this will manually tell the laptop to use either the native screen, an extension screen (the projector or monitor) or both. Typically this is triggered with the Function (Fn) button and maybe one of the F7 keys at the top. You'll see writing on it that will say LCD/CRT or have a little box like a monitor. Let me know if this helps!

How do enable presentation mode on a Dell Latitude E6400? You have this question/issue on your site, but I am unable to find the solution.

You should see a screen icon on the keyboard, (usually its the F6 or F8 key). Press FN and that key, and that should switch from LCD to External, then to Dual, then back to LCD.

Presentation mode is off in laptop

use the remote control or the menu button on the projector - navigate the menu system of the projector and one of the options should be able to alter the presentation mode from off to on.

If you post back with the model of the projector can either post a link back with a pdf manual for it or if you read the manual it should show in there how to enable the presentation mode.

Also ensure that you have the projector and laptop connected via the relevant cable ie vga or dvi before you switch the laptop on.

Also ensure if its got an intel graphics card to use the intel or graphics card utility to enable dual display or clone display mode and that the projector is switched on before you turn your laptop on.

right click in free area on your desktop --> properties --> display --> and configure it under the advanced section with regards to getting your laptop to display on the projector

configuring your graphics card for the projector will vary from graphics card to graphics card as the drivers are different between manufacturers and they place things in different places.

If you also post back with what make and model of graphics card you have on your laptop I can try and assist you further with how to ensure your laptop is outputting to the projector.

Also if it displays funny then lower the resolution on your laptop as well as the display frequency / refresh rate as the output from the graphics card on your laptop has to match what the projector supports ( this will be in the manual of the projector in terms of what display modes it supports )

I have a satellite a105 s2716 and the lcd only works when in dual display mode... also seems to be a conflict with using dual displays, resulting in reboot cycle

Hi, the conflict that your equipment presents does not refer to the driver that this installing, refers to a fault of hardware which does not allow that the card of video give image to the LCD, and by the same situation when forza the video the equipment it is restarted, the solution to your problem is to replace the card of video.

Show Microsoft Power point on Sharp Aquos hdtv

try to right click the desktop and choose graphics options, you will have to select the correct output for your setup. i.e. laptop to monitor, etc etc see if that works,...sounds like you have a connection, you will have to play with these settings until it pops up. worked with a similar scenario, sometimes you have to do stufff twice and it works on the second time not the first, electronics are weird.
keep changing the settings in the graphics options until it comes up the way you want it.

Presentation mode is off...

Hi there

You cannot hook up a PC & Projector with just a USB cable , you have to use a VGA cable for signal ( picture )

The USB cable is just to use the scroll up or down function from the standard remote controll when doing a presentation.
