No point Taking it to a professional as it would cost more than getting brand new 1TB External HDD

If you open that drive, you will destroy it. Those drive are airsealed, and are manufactered in a sterile environment. You will need to seek out professional recovery.

Hope this helps.

Right, it de[pends on what it crucial.. the drive or the content. But i would not cut corners on big drive with inferior enclosures...whats a half TB drive when it fails and is unrecoverable......I recovered drives and switch enclosure on drive for whoms peoples career mattered. So it comes down again to the content or the drive. Instead of purchasing a 1 TB drive, try 2 500 GB drive, and use one to back up the other. In the intimidating world of RAIDS, cheap bridge boards and inferior backup software.......backing up has always been the first and berst preventative measure....

Hope this helps, and don't forget to rate the advice.

Thanks lots for the's not like I didn't spends a good amount of time giving real advice, or that I was the cause of your malfunction. You even got an answer same day, 4 for that matter. I see why people give up on this site after a while. Not to mention your only advice was for someone to use the product warranty......if that's what you call a solution, then that figures.....again thank you for negative score.......i'll remember who was my first.

Oh and by the way, those drives dont have fans in them. But, I've already wasted enough time, I won't go into it.

Try with another PC, If still not recognising, then You have to open the Casing of your external drive. If you have any Warrenty remaining for this Drive, then let company people fix this. if no warrenty then Remove the HDD from the casing, Connect HDD to the PC with another External casing, and backup your Data. If no ditection with this method, then your HDD is Dead. Keep finger crossed best of luck

Ineed to know what power supply the mdhd500-ue hard uses

I presume you are trying to fix that unit. i suggest you remove the hard drive (if you already have it open and it isn't under warrenty). hook it up to your desktop computer as a spare drive and see if your computer recognizes it.

Freecom Classic 500GB External HDD Power Problemo

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Grab the solder gun and get started. No problem at all. Just replace the power button and your hard drive is perfect again. Only do this if you can have soldered anything previously. Try a matching button so that it may fix in the proper position.

Is my LaCie External USB 2.0 500GB fried/dead???

You're not missing any step at all, because with SATA hard drive if its really working your computer should
automatically detect it and since this hard drive suddenly stop working there's a possibility that its already
fried but if you want you can try this hard drive again to a different computer and if still not detected by
second computer its already dead.........

Seagate 500 external hardrive

It could be that the PCB or the connection within the external casing has a problem.

Try disassembling it and putting the Hard Disk into another external case to see if the disk is okay, if it is then viola! you have your data back.

LaCie 500GB external HDD stoped working ?

It sounds like its an internal problem with the pcb board inside, which may not be an actual problem with the hdd it self but the mother advice would be to change the board that links between the hdd and the usb cable.
