I have a Toro 12" electric weed eater and the line needs changed. Both of my brothers, my brother in law and my son have tried to get the bottom off (where the line goes) but it will not move. They tried everything. What is the secret to this. It does not have a model number on it. Thanks. Ginger I have a 12 inch Toro electric trimmer and I can't get the spool off to change it. Any solution?
I have an 11" Toro trimmer and was having trouble deciphering the symbols on the base. The key is having a method to gain some opposing force to unscrew the cap that holds the spool. I have a Toro 12 " trimmer and you have to press the two tabs in to pull of the bottom. I hope this helps
I was just looking on the web for this same thing and we figured it out.
Grab the bottom portion of the wheel. Press the center button down and turn it to the left (there is an unlock symbol on it.) and it should come out.
Good luck!
Throw your Toro electric trimmers into the trash and NEVER purchase
another Toro product again!!!!!!!! It's impossible to change their lousy

If the knob on the spool has two small rectangular slots on opposite sides, try inserting screwdrivers in each one at the same time and then turn the spool slightly. This might allow it to pop off.

I am having the same problem - the spool should just come off by turning it counter-clockwise but is completely stuck. This model does not have any tabs that need to be pushed in to get the spool off. Very frustrating!
