    Hi Al,

It should be added to the array, even if it is being used as a stand alone disk for backup only?...

    Hi scott

It will still need to be configured within the array controller to identify its use ie on line spare for array etc any bevice that is plugged into the array back plane must be configured at array level because this is a hardware raid and if the drive is not configured the o/s will not see it .

If the scsi controller you are using is dual chanel you could configure the second chanel as raid 0 and add the drive on the second array so that you can run backups to the second array

I want ibm server system x3400 startup cd

hello, i hope i may right what do mean in word start-up
try this steps The install is fairly easy. Before you begin make sure if you have SCSI adaptors installed have the drivers for them on hand. If you do not have these drivers you should download them to a 1.4MB floppy disk. When you are ready, put the Windows Server disk in the cd/dvd and reboot the IBM. Follow the instructions on screen and you shoud be fine. From start to finish it should take you about 1 1/2 hours to complete everything.
hope it can help to you.

While booting in recovery console it is giving no hard disk found . Server IBM eServer x3400-[797712Q]. OS: Windows 2003 STD

try other good known hard disk install it on your server, if it detect the presence of that disk then your hard disk previously installed has the problem, it going to be defective sooner or already defective

I have a IBM X3400 Server. Linux is install in this server .when I install a new hard disk in this server its not showing the space. And yellow Error light is glowing .What I can do?

Before Linux will show the new drive you have to mount the Drive so it knows what it is looking at. This should resolve the warning light issue as well. Unlike Windows most Linux Operating systems do not automatically recognize installed devices until they are mounted.

Hard disk upgrade

I faced the same problem i asked to the ibm people they said that non ibm hdd's are not supporting x3400 servers and they are hanging when we work with non ibm hdds. when I use segate 1 TB sata hard disk the server working fine the only problem is little bit slow for booting and programme running, this not a broblem. so pls use 1 TB sata hdds with your x3400 servers.

I cannot install windows xp in ibm x3400,the system is currently raid5,it shows message hard disk not detected. thanks

I believe your HDD must be a SCSI disk whose drivers might have come along with the HDD.While installing XP it gives an option to install third party drivers for your HDD, Hopefully after that it would start detecting

You need to give windows installation the drivers for your Sata-Bus by pressing F6 while the installation load the drivers (like when we want to install on RAID drive). or do the following method follow the links in that page for Slipstreaming VIA Serial ATA drivers and the other link to create a boot CD Creating a bootable Windows CD with Nero.
it's all in the following link: http://weblogs.asp.net/jkey/archive/2005/08/28/423901.aspx

SCSI hard disk is not detecting in IBM xSeries 346 Server

Hi
While running the windows 2003 setup (winnt.exe), it will ask for SASI driver, you have to add the scsi driver... then windows 2003 os will detect the HDD.. then it will install..
