Blank screen when trying to take new pictures

Powershot A590 IS: I used the camera at the weekend, and a couple of hours later I turned it back on and got a blank screen. I've changed the batteries several times, and pressed "DISP" several times, all to no avail. I can still view stored pictures, but see nothing on the screen when I want to shoot a new picture. Tried different modes. Paul Frost pfrost@coreslab.com

I had this same problem. Once I got over about 1200 pictures, the screen just turned black, and the only setting that would work where I could see the lcd screen was the easy setting. I had read somewhere that this was due to the amount of pictures the camera had "counted", even if those pictures had been downloaded and erased from the camera. So I decided to reset the camera. Go to the tools list in the menu, scroll down to "reset all", and when it prompts if you want to "reset settings to default" click ok. This worked for me, and all of my settings - sunset, landscape, etc. - now work. Keep in mind that if you have configured any parameters in any of the settings (shutter speed, lighting, etc.) those will have to be reset.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Use NMH type batteries standard batteries are not good enough for the write load that this camera draws. I think it recomjmends this in your manual if you still have it.

Lcd screen blank ,can view pictures AS590

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

My powershot A590 lens are open but it wont turn on

Can it take pictures? It may be that your LCD screen is disabled, This can be Un-Done by pressing the "DISP" button a few times.

My 9-year-old son ''cleaned'' the Canon powershot a590 in the sink. Now, when I turn it on, I get a white screen. The camera clicks, but no picture appears on the screen or aon the card.

Not much you can really do here, consider the camera unservicable.

Only thing, is make sure the camera is completely dry, you will need to open it up and use a hair dryer to remove any remaining water.

Very long lag time to shoot and between shots... sometimes!

hello again after researching i did find out that there is about a 3 second delay if using the flash option did any of your delays happen when not using the flash ? also does this happen when using the camera in auto mode ? turning the knob on the top to the green auto mode i'm thinking it also could have to do with your shutter speed or try going to the menu and changing the shutter speed to a faster speed your self then taking pictures in av or tv mode. here's a comment from a review on the PowerShot a590 that might help. Camera performance is very good. The PowerShot A590 is ready to shoot after a 1.2 second delay -- pretty snappy. Focus speeds were very good, even in low light situations. Shutter lag wasn't a problem, and shot-to-shot delays were minimal, except when you're using the flash, which is slow to charge. The camera can shoot continuously at 1.5 frames/second until your (high speed) memory card is full. The A590's battery life is 10% better than its predecessors, and is well above average for its class. The camera supports the USB 2.0 High Speed standard, for fast data transfer to a Mac or PC.
and if you still have the problem with out the flash then the only other solution is a faster flash memory card there's cards made just for digital camera's that store pictures and format quicker.
hope this helps your enjoy your camera.
