Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

1 Answer

Yamaha rx-v663 receiver worked only one week. next time i went to play stereo as soon as i turned it on it only stayed on about 2 seconds then shut down. i am able to try three times with same results before i have to unplug it from ups then wait 30 seconds and can try again. i do hear a click noise as it shuts off when i look down through top of receiver it looks like it is the small box in there that says yamaha on it. called their toll free number you could tell guy was just reading off some list all the things i had already tried out of the manual. they say take it it but i am going to have to drive it about 30 miles when i can get loose to get it there. I'm thinking what if it is something so easy. hope i stumbled into the right place. thanks Having the same problem! Happens even when the unit is completely unconnected from any speakers.

It is going into protection mode, if you do not have any loose crossed wires at the back of the receiver, you will be taking it to the shop.

once you set the audio program for an input, it should stay set even if you power the unit down. As far as locking that program so that it cannot be changed - no there isn't a way to do that.

Yamaha receiver RX-V663

Make sure you have an analog RCA audio cable from the source to the receiver. Digital coaxial or optical will not work for zone 2 or zone 3. By adding an analog cable it will not affect your main zone, it will always go to digital first. Hope this helps

Yamaha RX-V663 display is not working

If you have your receiver hooked up to a TV or Monitor, press "Menu" then toggle to section "5" "option menu" and check your "Dimmer" setting "0" is highest. Then check "FL Scroll" and the choice is "Cont". This info is on page 96 in your manual, if you don't still have a copy, here's the link

Hope this helps. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I will help you further.

Yamaha rx-v663 receiver worked only one week. next time i went to play stereo as soon as i turned it on it only stayed on about 2 seconds then shut down. i am able to try three times with same results...

The click is the autoprotection relay that should be allowing the amp to stay up. Try this... turn the speakers off if you can, or disconnect them then try again. Safety shutdowns are usually either heat or short circuits in the output stages. It doesn't stay up long enough to get hot so...

If it stays up withou the speakers on then the problems is probably external and easy to isolate.

Let me know.

Zune and yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

Buy the Zune A/V kit and hook it up to a non used rca port on the back. Look for the older ones for the 30 gb units, they are much cheaper than the new ones and it takes 10 seconds to modify them to use on the newer units. The A/V kit has 3 rca plugs, one for sound and 2 for video. If you pick a source that can play video and sound on your receiver, then the screen on the zune will display on your television. The A/V kit has a remote with it also so you can control the zune from the room. I have not tried it, but since the Zune remote is IR then if you have a good all in one remote, such as a harmony, you may be able to program the codes from the Zune remote into it and even be able to control your stereo and Zune from one remote. Hope this helps.

Yamaha RX-V663 - HDMI doesn't work.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a workaround:
  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
