Re: bissell water not working
Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn't squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix know. Pump is bad.

Check to ensure there is a full tank of Bissell Hard Floor Solutions and water. - Make sure the clean water tank is inserted properly by removing the tank and re-inserting it. Ensure the gasket is attached to the water tank and did not fall into the machine. Reattach this gasket if necessary. - Check the valve on the bottom of the clean water tank. The water should come out of the X-valve when pressed. If the valve is blocked, soak the cap and insert in hot tap water until the blockage clears. Check the handle to ensure it is installed properly. Remove the handle and re-attach, making sure the handle is pushed down all the way. If you need to re-install the handle, remove the solution tank and lift the tab as you lift the handle. Check to ensure the solution tube is inserted properly into the floor nozzle. Clean the spray tips by bending a paper clip and inserting this into the spray tips to clean. If you continue to experience no spray, you may need to call Bissel at 1-800-237-7691 for further assistance.

I've had a problem with Bissells where the handle gets out of where it's supposed to be in the handle and causes the problem that you mention. If this is your problem, the handle will feel different and looser. Good luck!
sume time the rubber gromit comes of the base of the water tank and gets stuck in the base there the water tank fitts to the base if this is why take out of the and refit it to water tank and of you go
It seems that you may have a bad pump. If you'd please give me the model number of the Bissell, I can give you the parts schematic so you can see how it's taken apart. We'd be happy to help you in explaining how to replace the pump should you have any questions.

http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=49977&thid=623558 Handle unit came off Posted by Mcnarymoss on May 26, 2008 Hi. My unit was working fine. Then my wife started using it. She was going back and forth using the Power Drive feature. Now, the entire handle slips off, and the unit is not working correctly at all. Any ideas Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The Bissell 1698 Power Steamer ProHeat Upright has a – let’s call it a power drive rod that has come apart and is no longer working and needs to be re-connected. The best results of the power steamer is that the power steamer works better on the pull back, which means that you dispense the water, the brushes scrub the carpet and the vacuum picks up the water and it goes into the recovery tank – if you go forward use the trigger assm to dispense the water so I t get a chance to soak in but the best results are on the pull back. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.bissell.com/Customer Service1-800-237-7691 Hours of Operation Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm EST Saturday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm EST Mail To: Headquarters, Bissell Homecare Inc P.O. The problem was a clogged heating unit which is located in the lower handle. There are two clear hoses going up the inside of the left leg of the lower handle that go to the heater and to the in-line water switch all within the lower handle. I unplugged the metal heating unit water lines and electrical connections (label the connections as you take them apart if you have a hard time remembering things...there were seven connection in all be it water and/or electrical). Removed the heat unit out and then removed the 6 screws holding the heater cover. Inside was a white powdery pasty debris (lime deposit ?) and the water path was clearly blocked in four different places. I cleansed the water trough with a little water and soft toothbrush and several toothpicks then reassembled. If you need new washers go to Orchard or ACE hardware. Take the old rubber washers(they are red) with you for comparison. I didn't need new washers...I just gently cleansed them. I immediately ran clear water through the machine and actually cleaned the carpet with a water rinse only. Will go back and finish the carpet the right way tomorrow. I had only used my machine three times before this happend over a three year period. A friend told me to always rinse it two maybe three times with clear water after using it and before storage. This took me exactly 42 minutes to disassembly and reassemble. Cost savings is several hundred dollars since I have a 5 bdrm house and would need a professional cleaner to do the small dirty traffic lanes all around the house.
MY CARPET CLEANER WAS NOT SPRAYING ANY WATER OR CLEANING SOLUTION. I TOOK THE BACK OFF OF THE HEATER THAT IS IN THE HANDLE. IT WAS CLOGGED WITH CALCIUM DEPOSITS. I CLEANED THE HEATER AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND IT WORKS GREAT. KEN
