Uninstall for antivirusxp2008 will NOT work. How do I uninstall

I am working on a dell inspiron 1501. This child's computer is full of virus' and and I need to uninstall the xp2008 antivirus program that is on it. However it will NOT let me uninstall. No matter what I've tried... it rejects the uninstall. This is worse than Norton. How do I get the darn uninstall program to work?

  • wordperfectq May 26, 2009

I tried bleepingcomputer...they wanted me to use spydoctor. However, since I'm doing this child a favor, I wanted freeware programs to use as much as I can. So I used the spybot search and destroy. I don't know whether it removed the antivirus 2008 yet but I will keep working on it.
Thanks for your wisdom. If I were at my home, I would strip the whole computer and start over but I'm not. I did download AVG Free as she had NO antivirus software on her computer except for that 2008 antivirus stuff. Wow...I had no idea anyone could have as many trojans on their computer as this child. I will be teaching her a whole lot of things before she gets on this computer again. Thanks.

You are right, it IS worse than Norton.
The reason you can't remove it is because you have been infected with a bit of malware posing as an antivirus program.

There are a number of spyware/malware tools that can help with this, but the one that I've had the most luck with regarding this specific infector is Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Download Link.

If you unfamiliar with how to use Malwarebytes, or tools like it, follow the instructions here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/remove-antivirus-xp-2008

Good luck!

For starters the program you are trying to remove is FAKE!! this is a malware program that doesn't function and tries to get you to "Buy" into it's features. however it will not give you anything in return. not only lulling the user into a false sense of security but often once downloaded also further infect the system

I tend to deal with Malware & spyware using a piece of software called SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY which has consistantly been good and has more than just malware removal tools.
this can be downloaded here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

You need to be careful though, as not all online offers live up to their name. To distinguish genuine spyware removal from the fake ones, you need to know exactly what a spyware removal is. A good online spyware removal program offers automatic updates to ensure that your PC is constantly protected from any malicious attacks. It is also often bundled with antivirus applications so that the job is done all at once.

My dell mini inspiron is making a loud noise and then windows display but always flashing

The loud noise indicates high processing from CPU and/or GPU, increasing the temperatures, therefore the need from cooler to operate at max. However since your screen is flashing, it means something is wrong with your GPU. You probably got those mining malware, I recommend to start in SAFE mode (F8 at start) and then run a reliable anti-malware, anti-virus too, start to uninstall programs, etc. If this is too complicated to you, it might be better to just re-format and re-install the entire Windows thing. Never trust in pir8 software, a LOT them contains mining malware today.

hi there.

for this, you may want to go to your device manager, check if there's a lan driver installed on your machine "network adapters" and if theres one then right clickon it and choose uninstall.

then restart your machine, then reinstall the network drivers that comes with your machine cd.

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

Tap to click does not work dell inspiron 1501

Tap to click is the feature of the touchpad driver. Uninstall any existing touchpad drivers and then restart the computer.
Go to www.support.dell.com enter the computer service tag and get the drivers for the touchpad from there. Also update the BIOS of your computer to the most recent version. In most cases a part replacement is not needed and the issue should be fixed.

I have dell inspiron 1501. when i insert sd memory card my computer doesn't acknowledge it. can you help

Go to My Computer and right-clickie the icon. Drop down to Properties (the last one in the list) and you want the tab for Hardware.

Find the USBs listed in there. They should be close to the bottom. Delete them, or right-clickie and select Uninstall.

Reboot your computer and let it auto-detect the USB hubs again as it reboots. That should solve it - if it doesn't then you have a hardware issue.

Spywear infection

I suggest running a full system Virus scan with AVG or AVIRA both you can get for free. Remember to uninstall your current virus software before you install new or you can crash your system. Once you have completed the virus scan. Restart. If any virus's were found run it again untill there are none reported. Pain I know.... once you have no reported virus's then run combofix...I guarantee this will fix your issue.
Download ComboFix from [url=http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Cnet.com will have AVG or Avira...

right click on my computer > properties > hardware > device manager > click on cd /dvd drive and uninstall the options there
than click on the IDE / ATA
and uninstall the secondary chanel first
and uninstall the primary channel .... but be sure that you do this in the same sequence coz if u have a ATA hard drive thats normally connected to the primary channel and if u uninstall that first it will freeze the system... after that is done restart the system and issue resolved
