The touch pad for my dell laptop has recently been acting as a "clicker"--a touch on the pad will have the same effect as clicking on the left-hand button. I do NOT want my touch pad to have this function, but I can't find how to turn it off, nor did I turn it on. VERY ANNOYING. I keep "selecting" things unintentionally with troublesome consequences.
Please help!
Hi there.
Try uninstalling the touchpad drivers and utility, that will solve the problem.
Post back if you need anymore help.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
Hi again.
Don't worry your touchpad will still work after you have uninstalled the touchpad drivers and utility, it will just go back to basics like any normal mouse.
Before i tell you where to go to uninstall it can you tell me whether you are using XP or Vista please.
Regards
Hi.
Ok, go to the control panel, in control panel click on programs and features, select uninstall a program. A list will generate with all the programs installed, look down the list for "Synaptics" this is the touchpad drivers and utility, click on it and at the top of that window you will uninstall, just click on that and follow the instructions (basically its just asking your permission). Once its done that restart the PC and see how that is for you.
If you need it, here is the link to Dell support, i have chosen your operating system for you, just download the Synaptics touchpad drivers >>>>>>>>

If by any chance you cannot see Synaptics in the list post back.
Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!
Ok, try looking for dell touchpad
The synaptics driver recognizes the system is a Dell. If you still can't find it please post back.
I apologize if my response may be a little slow but i will answer.
Ok.
In the search bar type msconfig, a system configuration window will appear, click on the startup and look down the list for Apoint, uncheck that box and click ok, then restart the PC.
Let me know how you you get on.
Ok,
Lets try a different way, and its probably going to work! (hopefully)
Go here to Dell support and download and reinstall the touchpad drivers, this should reset the touchpad settings back to defaults.

Usually answered in minutes!
How do I do that? And how do I reinstall without a touchpad?
Vista
Synaptics is not on the list.
Not there.
Well, that's not there either!
Well, I went there, downloaded the driver, installed it, restarted, and nothing has changed. Should I uninstall and reinstall???
