Question about Uniden TRU9496 Corded / Cordless Phone
Model #TRU9496, base unit and (4)cordless phones. No dial tone on base unit Line #1. Readout on base unit and invididual phones say "Line#1 in use". Can't call out on Line #1 on base unit but can call out on individual phones. Calls coming in go right to voice mail. Line #2 has dial tone on both base unit and individual phones but still all incoming calls go to voice mail. I hope this makes sense. Taffy

Sounds like the switching mechanism that creates the link is stuck. When you answer your phone, you allow the voltage to complete it's path and you either answer the phone or you hear dial tone. If that switch is stuck closed, even though you hung up the phone, the connection is still alive. When you try to pick the phone back up later, the connection is still closed, but your phone has already passed it's "if you would like to make a call" message and you hear no dial tone. Unplugging the power to the phone resets this switch and all is good again.....that is until it gets stuck again. I have seen this problem with phones after a near lightening strike at the house. Sounds like you need to get a new phone as I don't think this is repairable.

Have You Tried Replacing The Cable Connecting the Base To the Wall Jack? If Not Do That...
If that doesnt work there should be a channel button on the handset try that...If that doesnt work i would say the handset itself is bad.

Try punching in the number to call first THEN hit talk.. It should dial and call at that point..
Just like when making a call from your cell phn - dial the # first..

Hi, have you checked from your service provider that you have an outgoing service? Any number of problems could cause you to lose outgoing dialling, and some of these causes are outside of your control. In my opinion, I would first try a different phone; plug that into your line and see wether you have the same problem. If you do, I would first check your immediate surroundings to make sure that nobody has tampered with your line. Secondly, get your Telco to do a line test; they may charge a smal fee for this, but this depends on region and of course your provider. Might also be advantage too check any other connections and microfilters if you have those. If you have a broadband line, then consider unplugging your computer and router from the phone line and do the test by the main socket with just one phone. More sockets? check these one by one. This is the best way, and the most secure, may save you a lot of time and aggro in the future, and lets face it. If it is the handset, they are cheap enough to replace, but test your line first because this is more expensive and time consuming.

We've had the same problem with our new Uniden phone. Sounds like someone's on the other line - no dial tone and answering machine doesn't work. The telephone line works though because we plugged our old phone in and it works fine. Any solutions anyone?
