Re: Broken Screen

As the LCD of your MIO 168 is still working and displaying, and some parts of your screen are not responding,i think there is some problem with the touch screen, not the LCD screen, you can try to contact: MSN/EMAIL ,probably she can help you and give you a solution.

Re: Broken Screen

You can buy spare parts from ebay, or you can search a service like WSC Europe ( if you have in your country).

I plugged in my Garmin Nuvi 40LM to the computer and got the updates. But my keyboard is still not responding correctly. I push 5 and get a 6 or push T and get a Y. Any ideas?

Try recalibrating the display. Turn off the Nuvi. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and hold it there while pushing down on the power button to turn the unit on. Release the power button when the Garmin logo appears. Continue to press on the upper left-hand corner of the screen until you see the calibration screen.

Press all of the dots as they are presented. Once completed the Nuvi will display Calibration Complete

This will recalibrate your touchscreen to the LCD display. If this doesn't resolves your problem. then your touchscreen may be defective.

My magellan roadmate has a small ding on screen. I will not respond to touch on certain screens. Can it be taken appart for repair?

yes it can, but youll have to get the lcd with the digitizer, because the are soldered on the the lcd and very difficult to replace.

you can buy a good used, but broken 1200 off ebay for under 20.00 normally, because the 1200 has a problem with the usb port becoming damaged or broken and ask the seller if the screen is good

here is a quik search of broken 1200 on 43e7187.gif

you can also by a new screen but its harly worth it, since yyou can buy a new 1200 for under 70.00

if you need further help, just reply to this post

Need Garmin GPS Fix Advice

It sounds like the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the controller might be seated incorrectly. I would check that.

Garmin c330 fell and the outside glass to screen is not broken but the layer under it is shattered. it powers up but touch screen does not respond. is this something i can fix myself?

No, you will need to replace the LCD screen. Unfortunately, Garmin will charge you almost the price of a new unit for fixing it. You might be able to find a used unit on eBay that is dead but has a working display and swap the displays but it requires some electrical & mechanical knowledge.

If I can find a display, I can put it in for you for a reasonable price.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!

I have seen this with cameras, and pocket TV sets.

It is best to send the unit back for factory service. Ask for an estimate before servicing.

The parts in your GPS are not generic parts. You can buy the screen from the manufacture and find that the circuit board under it is also broken or damaged.

You may also find that the cost of the screen replacement may approach the cost of a new unit. I have seen this on many small devices. In some models the screen module comes as part of a complete matched assembly.

Broken screen

The best solution, in my opinion, is to buy a unit being sold for parts or repair (making sure that the LCD display was working) and do the replacement that way.

That's what I'm doing because when I write with my stylus it doesn't recognize what I write.

Broken garmin screen

Unfortunately the only way to get the screen that I have found is from Garmin, and their price is not too silly because the screen is quite a significant part of the cost of the unit. To replace yourself is probably simple enough, but there will always be the chance that then it doesn't work, with garmin at least they should include that in the price. Best other option would be to pick up a second hand (maybe broken) one yourself - try local repair shops - they may have a box of them. Cannibalising a screen between two identical units should not be hard, although you may need some special screwdrivers or keys to open the unit - doubt it would be anything you can't get at a local hardware store. If you can get a screen and want to try this, please take some photos and post them and we can try and talk you through the procedure. it will usually be little more than swapping a connector, and possibly some mountings that are glued on that need playing with - hardest part is usually getting the bits to stay in place when you put it back together. Hope this helps, post again if you need more :)
