Question about Canon PC-420 Copier
Paper feed starts fine with main feed roller, but then stops partway and does not continue as copier completes copy cycle. There is no jam. The paper just stops feeding after travelling a couple of inches. Looks like there may be a switch that controls the feed roller than doesn't operate correctly. Any ideas? I have the same problem - worked fine when I made 2 test copies, now it just feeds up to the second roller-bar and stops. when the scanner plate stops moving it gives a paper-jam error.
I had the same problem. I found a parts diagram here http://techno-parts.org/canon/220/320_220.php which showed that the springs hold the bar down. On mine, on each side, one of the spring tabs was broken.
I made a metal pin for one side and insert a screw on the other. Be sure and wrap the spring over the nylon bushing.

Check to see if one of the sensors flags has not fallen out. there will be a sensor just before where the paper stops and one just half way along the paper it sounds as the paper is not getting to a sensor in time that is why it is throwing up a jam code

If the Paper Feed Roller is dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly.
In this case, clean the Paper Feed Roller. Cleaning will wear out the Paper Feed Roller, so perform this only when necessary.
You need to prepare: three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper
1.Make sure that the power is turned on, and remove any paper from the Rear Tray.
2.Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.
3.Clean the Paper Feed Roller without paper.
(1) Press the (Maintenance) button repeatedly until b appears.
(2) Press the Black or Color button.
The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as it is cleaned.
4.Clean the Paper Feed Roller with paper.
(1) Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller has stopped rotating, and load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray.
(2) Make sure that b appears on the LED, then press the Black or Color button.
The machine starts cleaning. The cleaning will be completed after the paper is ejected.
This should fix the issue
