Question about Saeco Magic De Luxe Espresso Machine

Steam peters out after 20-30 seconds

Newly purchased, refurbished Saeco Magic deLuxe only steams for maybe 30 seconds before turning into a dribble of water. For those first 30 seconds, it is steaming like a pro! FYI -- brew works fine as does the hot water dispenser. What could cause the steam function to peter out like that? Turning it off for a short while will allow it to build up pressure again, but if you then turn the steam on, it will again last only a short while. Tank is 2/3 to 3/4 full.

Thanks for the response. Yes, the pump is pulsing away. And it really steams like a champ for the first 20 seconds, then it slows to a light flow of water by the 30 second mark. It's as if it has lost all of the pressure it had built up.

The machine was just received, so I'm not sure when it was last descaled. Since it is a newly refurbished machine, I'd expect that they either descaled it or at least checked the boiler to see if it needed it. Or maybe I'm asking too much? :-)

And to comment on Solution #1, thanks for the thought. I have an older Magic Deluxe that steams just fine, so I switched Parnellos. No luck! The steam still petered out to nothing after 30 seconds while the pump was chugging away at about three clicks per second (about the same rate as the working, older machine).

Thanks all for the helpful hints. The machine was still under warranty, so I just bit the bullet and sent it in for repair/exchange. Hate to be without it for another week, but will feel better getting the issue addressed properly.

    Thanks!

When was the last time you descaled the mahine? There is a mineral in all water that makes it sweet, that is calcium carbonate and that builds up in the boiler and needs to be removed by descaling. Citric acid powder is what you need to use.

    Hi
Do you hear the pump pulsing when it is the steam mode when you open the knob?

Hi
Do you get a red light over your temperature or does it stay green.
I would do a descale just to make sure that that is not the problem.

The only thing that I can think of (not being able to see the machine) is the Parnello. Reason; steam is comming out faster than the element can heat it up. At some point it has to be restricted, for a nice uninterrupted flow.

This might sound crazy but try it, open the steam wand and when it stops steaming, push in on the steam knob.

My saeco magic coffee machine says ventilate. How do I do this?

Hi
If it is just a Magic Delux, open the steam knob, without pushing the steam button. If its a Magic Comfort you have to push the button with the drops on it and it will flow water.

My Saeco Incanto deluxe started dripping hot water from the steam spout outlet when coffee is brewing. It produces steam and hot water without any problems. It doesn't leak when it's in a normal state...

Either the grind is too fine and there is so much pressure that the pins in the steam valve are not working properly. First try to adjust grind a little coarser, it that does not work, then the pins in the steam valve need to be replaced.

The steam knob only turns 1/4 turn to left

Hi
!/4 turn is all the Magic and Royal machines will do. Don't try to turn it farther or you could break the steam valve.

Saeco Magic 2nd light to the left (ON RED LIT)

Sound like descaling warning light, need to run descaling solution through the machine (follow instructions, you can download a manual on saeco's website) this light can be turned off by pressing and holding the steam button for 5 seconds.
