Question about Gateway M-7301u Notebook
My wife got a laptop this past December for school – a
gateway – has worked great until this past week. She turned it on and the power button
illuminated and that was it. No screen, no sounds, keyboard did not work and
according to her it would not turn off (do not know about this one). She ultimately left it on till the battery
died according to her. Most of the time
she uses the wall plug – I do not recall when she used it just off the battery.
Thursday she told me about the problem and I plugged it in and turned it on. Yup, the power button illuminated and that was it. No screen, no sounds, keyboard did not work. But I pushed and held the power button and it did turn off.
Here's a link to a good article that will help you to troubleshoot the startup problem. Even though you are getting a light, it could be a failure of the power supply, especially if you don't hear any fans. But it should still be under warranty at this point, so you have to be careful how you service it.
Here's a link to the Gateway site, where if you enter her serial # you can access specific support help for her laptop, by searching startup problem + no post + no boot + no screen and see what comes up. You may just have to get them to service it.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I deal with this model at work and the factory power setting can cause a lockup if you tell it to shutdown or hibernate then close the lid before it's done.
Try removing the AC and the battery, then plugging just the AC back in and powering back up. If the problem is the one I noted above it will fire back up and give you a black and white error screen, select boot normally and you're on your way.
If this doesn't work it is possible that something has failed in the hardware, usually a seized fan or bad RAM although it can be more serious. Being it's only 6 months old, unless you bought it refurbished with only 90 day warranty I would take it in for a warranty repair at this point.
Hope this helps FixYa,
