It sounds like a bad inverter. A local service technician should be able to do it for under $100. Here the rate is about $70.

I have a Compaq Evo N610C laptop and the screen flickers and then goes out

Take a good look, can you still see the image?
From your short description it should be a power-inverter problem.
Checkout google on used parts, buy a power-inverter to that computer model, unscrew the screen, take the cover, and you should see the power-inverter. Replace it.

Compaq Evo N610C Faint Screen

Usually it's the inverter. Sometimes it's the backlight / lcd, and occasionally it's the lcd cable and or video card.

Easiest thing to do is order a replacement inverter from ebay. They're cheap and then swap it. You just need to remove the outside lcd bezel, it's just four or five screws and you're in business.

Gotta problem

Hold down the Fn button on the lower left corner of the keyboard and the F2 key @ the same time.
The light on the front of the lid should light up. If it doesn't follow this link and there is an update there that should get you up and going.

Pink screen

Dear LT user,

Your LT has one of the following 2 problems: Your LCD cable might be faulty OR your inverter board is malfunctioning.

The LCD cable is responsible for transfering "color information" or "screen data" from the motherboard to your screen. If this cable is faulty or malfunctions, it can result in a lot of appearances - in your case a pink screen.

The Inverter board is repsonsible for the "light" on your screen. If the inverter board is faulty or does not function properly, you might experience this issue.

If your LT is still under waranty, you can give it in @ the nearst HP Warany centre for repairs. If not ; HP parts are very expensive.

What you can also do, you could install an external monitor (LCD flatscreen) to your LT. Because the Flatscreen cable connects to your VGA port at the back of your LT, using an 15 pin blue connector , it connects directly to the Mainboard so it does not run over the LCD cable and thus will be a unit on its own.

Kind Regards,
Stef

Powered off.

Any beeps when you turn it on? unplug everything and then plug it back in. Make sure the monitor connections are good and that you have it turned on. Again make sure it's turned on. Sometimes it's the simple stuff. Was the monitor working well before it failed? Do you have a video card?
Remove the battery, AC, count to ten and try one last time?
