Question about Maytag Performa PAV2200

Maytag Performa is siezing up

I put a load in tonight and it started making a rough sound.  First thing that comes to mind is that it sounded like a bearing, but I'm no expert. Proven by what I did next...

I let it keep running. Thinking maybe it just had something that was in it and it would work itself out.  I know, bad idea. Well, almost half way though the spin cycle I heard it come to a halt and start a high pitch whistle sound. I immediatley turned it off. Thinking the worst I waited a couple minutes and turned it back on just for a split second to make sure it didn't lock up. It started to turn with the same growling sound so I switched it off.

Can anyone give me an idea of what it might be and if I could fix it myself?

Thank you!

Re: Maytag Performa is siezing up

You should be able to find out what it is easily enough. Unplug the machine and slide it out enough to be able to tip it back so that you can get to the belt and pulleys underneath. Remove the belt and turn the water pump and transmission pulleys by hand. Be sure to turn the transmission pully both directions.(it is the large one) The most likely thing you will find is a problem with the water pump. It could just have something in it that you can clean out or it may need replacing. Post back with what you find out and I will try to help you decide if it is something you can repair yourself.

it sounds like the shocks on the drum maybe failing. on this model the washing machine mother board is close to the outer drum. the out drum may have made contact with it. and not turning on the pump to let the water out.

Maytag performa pav3200 washing mach. very load shrill noise during spin

if you just bought it it probably is the shiping pin. it is a large boldt in the back of the front load machines, smaller pin in the side or rear on toploaders. it keeps the drum from spinning in transit. people forget to pull them all the time. especially if you installed it yourself. If that isnt the problem, try leveling it. Newer machines spin much faster than older ones and one tiny bit off level will make it rattle and shake.

I have a Maytag Performa Washer, model number PAVT244AWW, that does not agitate. Everything else is working. It makes a loud noise during the wash and rinse cycles when the agitator is supposed to be...

My Maytag Performa makes a grinding sound when it agitates. When it starts to dump the water it makes a loud grinding on metal sound... really loud. What is the problem and how much to fix?

Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

Maytag Performa washer Waterlevel/agitator problem

CHECK your stand pipe hasn't fell over (the one the drain hose goes to when emptying)If not,Either the pressure switch is broke or there is a hole or split in the pressure switch rubber hose. This switch stops the water when it reaches required level.
