You will need to print off a printer settings page. Usually found under the Reports menu or something similar. It will list the IP address. Once you have the IP Address, make sure it is set correctly in your printer drivers in the Control Panel on your computer.

I would check if there are any printing restrictions set for the printer. Most current printers offer the option of either restricting based on user name or Ip address. The later intended to prevent Ip direct printing to bypass pay for print systems. That or your non-admin user has the incorrect driver installed and that is triggering the erro.

Dell 5100cn as a netwok printer via my LAN

Connect it to the router. It should hopefully be set to get an ip address from the router. On each computer that you want to print from you need to select Add Printer in the Printers section of Control Panel and select a "Network Printer". You should be able to either browse for it or put the ip address in (depends on the router, printer settings etc). It should then ask you for the drivers etc.

If stuck there is a comprehensive how to on the Dell website.

Why do you need to set it manually? More than likely this is because of DHCP settings on the network which keep issuing a new IP are the instructions....

Dell 5100cn change ip address

Changing Printer's IP Address isn't that complicated. There are two ways on how to change the printer's IP Address.

If you know the old printer's IP address, you can simply type that old IP address on the Address Bar of your Internet Explorer or any other browser (ex: It should redirect you to the printer's User Interface. From there you can go to Network then TCP/IP settings. You can change the IP address of the printer. Make sure to use an IP address within the same range of your network.

The other way to change the printer's IP address is by its own Menu/Settings on the printer's LCD panel.
On your printer, press Menu then got Settings. Look for Network or LAN settings and click on Advance. Select TCP/IP and click on Edit. You can now change the IP address of the printer from there. Click on Done or Save after that.

Note: Make sure the use the correct IP address within the network's range.

Changing a Dell 3010cn IP address and Storecenter

Print a settings page from the printer. If you are not sure on how to get the settings page, download the user manual from, there should be instructions in there on how to get this. Once you have the settings page locate the IP address on the print out. Take this IP address (which may be different then the one you want to use) and open internet explorer, put the IP address in where you would normally type a web address, hit enter. This will take you to the embedded web server of the printer. Once you are there, you can look for printer settings, ip address or TCP/IP address. Once you have found this, you can set a static (meaning it will not change, unless you change it) IP address (the IP address your tech person gave you) and submit the information to the printer. The printer must be on and in the ready state for this to take hold. If you are prompted for a username and password for the embedded web server, dell default username in small case is admin, leave password blank or username admin, password is password. To confirm that the address has taken, print another settings page from the printer.

Dell 5100cn won't recognize mpf tray

Go to the printer web page by entering the IP address of the printer in an Internet Browser.
click Printer Settings menu entry
If the Substitute Tray value is not MPF Feed, click on the Printer Settings tab
Set the Substitute Tray value to MPF Feed
Click the button Apply New Settings, it will request the admin id & password for the printer.

In trying to resolve this issue, initially I set the Tray Settings to Panel Specified from Driver Specified at the printer's panel. Since the issue was resolved with this set, I just left it that way.

Very strange problem with Dell 5100cn

Hi Dejoda89,

Unfortunately, the problem is not with the printer, but rather the computer that you are trying to access it with.

It could be a corrupt Print Driver, corrupt registry file, your firewall, or even the security settings on the print server.

The network card of the printer doesnt care where the source of the request is coming from. If you can address the printer via tcp/ip, then the port is active and working.

Check with the system administrator of the print server to see if they can help resolve the issue.

Dell 5100cn leaving line only on full color pages

There is more then likely damage to one of the photo developers. This is what transfers the toner to the imaging unit. The Developer frame assembly has to be totally removed in order to change one or all of the developers.

The only other posibility is that the printhead needs to be cleaned, however, in order to clean the printhead you would still need to remove the developer frame assembly to access the front of the printhead.
