Why won't my rotor tiller stay running after starting Its a briggs and stratton

95% of run ability problems are carb related. It needs to be disassembled and cleaned. Do you leave gas in it at the end of season,if yes always drain the tank and let it run till it stops next time before storage. Good luck

How do I know what carb kit to get for a 5hp Briggs and Stratton motor on a Masport Rotary Hoe?

Take the model, type, and code number from the motor with you to the local shop and they should be able to identify the proper kit.
The numbers are usually stamped on the flywheel cover. either on top ( by the head) or on the side or on the front directly over the flywheel fan.

Wizard rototiller model 5hp. Briggs. Not getting fuel somehow. Fixed carberator. Spark plugs cleaned everything out... what could be the issue

is it a bowl style carb and you cleaned it is it a diaphram style and you replaced the diaphram ?the older 5hp briggs engines would run fine if you started it with carb cleaner some leaked head gaskets and could create enough vac to draw in the fuel

Purchased hahn tiller 5hp briggs stratton with broken tines and bearing and seal leaks. where can i get parts

Parts for the engine can be purchased from briggs and stratton
The bearings and seal can be purchased from Napa. Dimensions are required for the bearing inner and outer diameters. (Caliper time)
The tines.... I don't know. My experience on the tines is you either find an old Hahn Eclipse Tiller for parts or you find a good craftsman that can make one. I had to make a LH tine using the broken parts, some forge hardened bar stock and a welder. The tine manufacture took much longer than expected...!

Same problem - Slow engine speed doesn't run smooth either

You should look at the numbers AFTER the model and type number you noted in your post. The first two digits of the CODE are the year the engine was made. This looks to me like an old 5hp Briggs....old enough that it wouldn't have electronic ignition. If it has the old points and condenser, it could likely need a tune up. Electronic ignition modules or electronic ignition coils are available for this engine - see your Briggs dealer.

If you had the gas tank off, did you replace the gasket between the carb and engine block? This particular engine uses 2 (two) gaskets, not one.

By the way, you don't want to make a governor spring. It's best to use the one specifically manufactured for this particular engine or you run the risk of over-revving.

Can't find filler plug on transmission

Jim the older tillers did not have a place to put grease in. You have to break the case apart then it takes 00 grease. These are sealed units and don't need additional grease. Check with Sears.com parts lookup for a new manual. I am on my second Craftsman r/t tiller now rebuilt the transmission on the first and wore it completly out then bought a new about 8 years ago. About to rebuild the transmission on it.
