I have one with the same problem. Look at the lamp. If it isn't really bright, that could be the cause. Mine is bright at one end and that is the side of the page that is good. I am not an expert so I could be wrong, but that is where to start if all else looks OK. Am looking for a cheap replacement lamp myself. But at the prices of all-in-ones, it's not worth spending much.

When i scan on my Canon Pixma MP780 all in one printer, i get a light red line about an 1/8 of an inch wide down the scanned image?

Due to fact that the line is red makes me think the contact image sensor is faulty. If the line was black then i would have said you have something stuck on either of the scanner glasses. Check the glasses anyway for any muck stuck on them. Also do a scan from the adf and a scan from the flatbed. If the line is made from only one then the CIS is ok. If both do the same (a line) then the CIS IS faulty.

Xerox Documate 152 - Scan quality is now V.BAD!

I would go to Xerox.com and look up their knowledge base. Here is a copy of data from their site related to this problem:

Symptom: Scanned images have poor image quality, are fuzzy, unclear, or hard to read.
Cause: There are several things that can lead to poor image quality including the scan settings, dirt on the scanner, and driver problems. Solution: Note: If you scan as a PDF file and your scans look fuzzy when viewed in PaperPort, try right clicking on the file and selecting "Open" to open them in Adobe Reader. If they display fine in Adobe Reader then there is nothing wrong with the scans, it is simply that they are not being displayed well in PaperPort.

The following solutions can help resolve poor scan quality.

Solution 1 - Adjust the scan settings

Try increasing the resolution of your scan. 300 dpi to 400 dpi should be clear for most images
  • If you are scanning in Black and White, try Grayscale or Color. Some images will not display correctly in Black and White
  • You can also try adjusting the brightness and contrast
  • Note: For information on adjusting your scan settings, refer to the user guide for your scanner
Solution 2 - Clean and Calibrate the scanner

Note: Calibration only applies to sheetfed scanners.

Use the link below for instructions on cleaning and calibrating (if applicable) your scanner:
Solution 3 - Reinstall the scanner driver Select a link below for instructions on reinstalling your scanner driver:

HP4400c Yielding Poor Image quality

I was having the same problem- dpi didn't have any effect.
Changing the SHARPEN to "High" and Descreen worked for me. My research showed the alternative fix was a new scanner, or at the very least a new bulb/power supply (which would probably cost more than a new scanner)

DR-5010C scanner yellow line

First clean the glass thoroughly using IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol) Dont use any solvents. If you are getting the same result even after this, there could be a module problem.

The image has patchy lines

The scan image you have above could be caused by a few different issues but the number one is a power issue. Make sure that the printer is plugged in directly to the wall and not into a surge protector or a power strip. The printer does not share power well and pulls it in large amounts - when it can't get it it throws little power fits and sometimes will not turn on at all. Try another wall outlet and see if you can get it to power on and do a copy. Does the image look any better?

If this does not solve the issue then it may be that your scanner bulb is going and therefore not illuminating the image properly. Call hp and see if they have any upgrade units available - usually refurbished but they come with a 1 yr warranty and are significantly cheaper than buying a new unit from the store. They will also take your unit and pay to have it returned to go to an environmental recycling facility.

Scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.

Red vertical line through images

This issue does indeed sound like a bulb issue - however, it would be cheaper to replace the scanner rather than service the unit.
