Vizio vp42 plasma black lines and grainy picture

My tv was working great, then I heard a little pop and the picture had black lines on the bottom right and a very grainy picture. All channels are the same way, sound is fine. I tried unplugging it and all that did was make the entire screen black and it takes about 2-3 minutes for the black to go away. It seems to move left to fight. When the black goes away still left with a very grainy picture.

SOURCE: Vizio 50" Plasma VP50

Hello SuziCanevaro,

This may have been the sound of electrolytic capacitors exploding. I would not suggest plugging the set back in until you can have it checked by a qualified TV technician. If you are skilled in Electronics and would like to work on this yourself, you will need:

The schematic diagram, a multimeter, a signal generator, an oscilloscope, and an isolation transformer.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

SOURCE: had loud pop and then no picture on the vizio 50in. plasma

Replace the Z Sustainer Board, Part # 6871QZH044B and replace the Y Sustainter Board, Part # 6871QYH039B at the same time. If you replace one and not the other the bad one will end up shorting the good one and you’ll lose your picture within a week. You can do this work yourself by unplugging the unit and placing it face down on carpet (put down a soft blanket to protect the screen) and unscrewing the back of the unit (a power screw driver works great for this job because there are a few screws involved). The cheapest place to buy these two parts are: www.discount-merchant.com , or www.avextra.net, or www.ebay.com

SOURCE: Vizio 50 inch plasma picture problem

Once minute my Vizio P50HDM was working the next minute the picture was barely visible. I called Vizio and they gave me a number for a repair company. Their company gave me a $650 estimate. I called a few other local placed and they said that this is a very common problem for this model TV. All the places gave me an estimate of between $600 - $700. I called Vizio to complain, but they are not interested.

SOURCE: Pink Screen on Vizio 37 inch with HDMI Connection

Hi,
I work as a contract technician for Vizio, and I can tell you from experience that replacing motherboard is one of the only solutions to this problem. The other solution if under warranty is to replace it. If you experience red, blue, or green pixels where dark shades (like nose, eyes, clothes, etc), call Vizio and accept nothing less than a full replacement! I have had situations where I replaced motherboard and within 2-3 hours the pixels return. Hope this helps.

I have a vp42 I have sound but no picture nothing black like it didnt turn on. I can hear it but cant controll the sonud.

Hi,
I would check to confirm that all cables in the back of the TV and other items attached to the TV via cable are all fully secured into the sockets, push them to make sure they are fully connected.
Next I would suggest looking for a source button on the side of the TV and going through all the different inputs to make sure you are on the right one. Also confirm that all the devices are turned on. If this fails to work check to confirm on any channel that a picture will appear, even if it is white noise or other information text displayed by the TV it's self to make sure the screen panel is not broken.
Thanks,
Ash.

The problem is mainly that your TVs pixels are "dying" out. Over long periods, the pixels start to go bad and, unfortunately, there is no real affordable way to fix them. The parts needed to correct your issue would probably cost about the same as replacing the TV. The good news is that a 42" Plasma is very affordable nowadays (around $600 - $800). Working for Aaron's Sales & Lease, I can tell you that our deals on a similar TVs by Samsung or Panasonic can run you about $59.99 a month for 24 months. I hate to be the bearer of bad news...comment if you have any other questions.
