Re: want to speed up a Pentium 3
The only feasable fix for this is to upgrade your memory, hopefully your system uses DDR memory in which case you can still find it at reasonable pricing, if you have SDRAM (pc100,333 etc) you may have a more difficult time locating it though many computer shops may have some used memory of this type in stock.

There are several reasons for slow boot time, things you should check.
1- How many programs are in startup?Limit startups to only what is needed, the rest can start using manual or delayed.
2-Malware= Try scanning with Malwarebytes its free :)
3-Virus= Run a complete scan of you hard drive there are many free anti virus programs to choose from.
4- Defrag- your drive often at least monthly.... again many freeware programs to choose from.
Doing this maintenance should help the computer run much better and speed up boot time.
like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in
Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). High CPU levels causes hang ups like
disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type
MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to
load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources
while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load,
but when only you initiate.
any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.
You only have 504MB of Ram and bye adding more Ram will do a lot for performance. If you go to www.crucil.com and use there scanner it will tell how much ram you can putin along with speed and amount you can buy it from them or wright down the information and buy it elsewhere
I had the same problem. I talked to 3 different technicians on the Humminbird support line about it. All 3 of them confirmed that this is how their technology works. They ping the GPS satellites continuously, and at low speeds the GPS accuracy causes the speed measurement to fluctuate wildly. It smooths right out when you go faster than 3 MPH, since your boat moves far enough at that speed that the GPS accuracy is no longer a problem.
Seems like they could easily overcome this issue by averaging GPS readings over a longer time period at low speed (i.e. give the boat enough time to move far enough to eliminate the accuracy issues), but they don't do that.
It was a big issue for me since I do a lot of trolling at low speed and need an accurate speed indicator, so I returned the product and bought a Lowrance instead. Lowrance doesn't have this issue.
Theyare telling you that your computer takes PC-100 memory at a clock speed of 222Hz. This is memory for older, slower, Pentium III computers. It wiil run Windows Xp Pro on a pentium III at a fairly good speed if you install at least 512MB and have a hard drive with 30GB of disk space. This memory shipped with the pentium III that usually had a HD of 10GB or less in computers made around 2001-2002.
Have u checked to make sure that the fuel filter isn't plugged, and it could be possible that the fuel pump is bad -being cracked or haveing a bad seal in it allowing fuel to leak back in the gas tank, as soon as your fuel pump warms up the leak would expand dropping your power
First thing to do to speed up a computer even with this slow processor is to remove some unnecessary program installed on the computer, then run a good anti virus and anti malware software some Avast and Malwarebytes to make sure that not a virus or malware is causing this slow computer and the best thing to is to add up a Mermoy on your computer that will surely make it much faster....
