I have 2 other laptops. Actually all laptops were working fine, then suddenly all were disconnected to the internet.

As I tried to troubleshoot it in one of the laptops, I was able to connect to the router and had an excellent signal. The laptop was also able to get IP address from the router's DHCP. But when I tried pinging the router, it was not able to do so and cannot connect to the internet.

But on one laptop, I connect it through the cable, it seems just fine and was able to connect to the internet.

  • k_tan May 26, 2009

Yes I can connect through wired connection.

I cannot access my router right now since I al still at work.

  • k_tan May 26, 2009

  • k_tan May 26, 2009

no. I was not able to ping the router or gateway.

  • k_tan May 26, 2009

I haven't tried resetting the router. But I was able to get correct IP from the router's DHCP. It does not start with 168.254

  • k_tan May 26, 2009

    yes it is 192.168

remmber an IP that starts with with 172 or 169 is a loopback that means the router is not responding. As ersatyle indicated. before reseting try unpluging both modem and router. then plug in the modem let it bootup (1-2 minutes) then plug in the router. Then try. if it starts to work look for your manufactures website for a firmware upgrade.

    please rank me

for the SpeedStream 2623 Wireless Router the first 3 octects should be 192 then 168 as 192.168.?

  • ersatyle May 11, 2010

did you try to reset your router? usually you have a small button for this purpose. then try to reconfigure only the wireless and try again.
is the IP you're obtaining start with 168.254?

were you pinging ip address or default gateway?

  • fougzki May 11, 2010

you cant ping the router because some routers will not accept a ping request. also if you can get into the router I maybe able to assist you if you are willing to trust me and enable me to acess it remotely. I have done this before. If you have some sort of instant messaging. or have used VNC before. I am 90 percent sure this is a router problem you may email me at

do you have more than one computer on your network. PC desktop?

you may have to clone its MAC address on the router as to allow the router to send the mac address to your ISP

From the comments and posts listed, it does sound like a problem with the wireless on the router. I second Ersatyle's recommendation to reset the router and reconfigure it from scratch, making sure the internet works fine via cable before trying wirelessly, as this will help to eliminate any issues connecting to the internet itself as opposed to the wireless.

Toshiba wireless sees desktop but desktop cannot see laptop. using belkin wireless

this is not likely a problem with your router, here's a couple of tips (this typically works in xp...hate vista and haven't got ahold of 7 yet)

open command prompt, find your ip info (ipconfig /all) try pinging both computers' ip address (ping 192.168.x.x), then ping the router...if you're using local ip addresses it should be or similar...its likely that one ping the other but not vice versa

MAKE SURE the first three numbers are the same, i had a problem when i missed a vs a

If you have not created a home network, i'd recommend don't have to make a network disc like it tells you to but make sure they're setup for the same network (i.e. XPHOME, JOHN'S NETWORK)

if they both still are not communicating after a few minutes, try to connect a hard line between them, set one up as the router and dns...your ip config should look similar to this:

you wont be able to have internet access but I do this to check network integrity, try pinging again, it should work both ways now, set up the network again and then change your gateway and dns back to your router.

I hope this helps, sorry if thats confusing

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!

Still No Internet

I understand. You're two computers needs to be both connected to the router. Can you tell me if your Desktop computer has an Ethernet port? Your modem should only be connected to your router. Then, the two computers have to be connected both to the router. The Desktop will be wired to the router using an Ethernet cable and the Laptop through wireless connection.

Then, access the router's setup page again. You know how to do it, right? Remember launching IE and typing Once you're in Go to STATUS page and look for IP address. Please let me the IP address that the router receives from your modem.

The reason why you need to connect the computers to the router, is because your ISP gives only Internet IP address. If you will connect your Desktop through USB to the modem, then there is no Internet IP address left for the router for your wireless computer.

The router should be the one to receive the Internet IP address and it will be the one to share it to the two computers behind it.

Please update me about this.

Cannot "ping" (default gateway)

1) yes, referring to the router's IP address.

2) I determined the IP addresses of all my computers and tried to "ping" them but could not "ping" any of them. I can "ping" the IP address of the computer I am working from but I don't think that helps in TS this situation.

3) I'm wondering if my router is fully set up correctly. Do each of the computers have to be "saved" in the router's settings?

Wireless connection

Go to your PC.

Start --> Run -- > cmd -->ipconfig. Chk the ip address in the default gateway. From ur laptop. chk if you can ping that ip. To ping -- Start --> Run --> cmd -- > ping

If you cant ping it, just means there is no communicaition betwen the router and the computer. Meanwhile, make sure that the laptop is close enough to the router and you have a good signal strength.
