The computer was powered off while the Verbatim drive was plugged in. The computer did not crash, nor was the drive unplugged without using the safe eject.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

Was th drive unplugged without using the safe eject?

Did the computer crash or get powered off while the Verbatim drive was plugged in?

Does the drive still show up in Disk management?

(right click on computer/mycomputer, left click manage. When the MMC opens select Diskmanagement and look for 11.xGB drive)

Report back with this info, we'll help figure it out and if it is beyond simple fixing, I'll recommend a data recovery facility in your area.

Ok,

So it wasn't obvious damage then lets do the next step, Right-Click on My Computer, then select Manage, when the MMC opens select Device Manager on the left side, Open USB Devices and look for USB mass Storage controller. If it is not there then it's likely the controller board in the Verbatim shell is dead.

If that is the case, your best bet will be to drop by a local computer store and purchase an empty HDD enclosure to move the drive into.

If it does show up as a USB mass storage controller but not as a drive the problem is more likely in the circuitry of the HDD itself and you may require the assistance of a data recovery pro.
