Question about Kenmore 44042 Front Load Washer
Pump is working, but machine will not do final spin cycle. Will wash the clothes tumbling. Help
I'll preface this by saying that I know this is going to sound stupid...
I had the same problem with my Kenmore front load. It would slowly toss the clothes clockwise then counter-clockwise when it was supposed to be spinning.
This started about 2 years ago and after a couple of months, the washer was about worthless as the isolated non-spin became the rule...
So, I did what anyone who wasn't going to stick money in a 5 year old washer would do, I tore it apart to see if I could find anything... cleaned up some parts and put it back together... nothing.
So, I figured there had to be a problem with either the motor or the speed control... something wasn't clicking. Since the motor seemed to work at other speeds, I concentrated on the speed control.
I took off the bottom access panel and looked in there... looking at the front of the washer, the metal box that houses it is located on the right, about 2 ft from the front of the machine.
Well, I took a piece of wood and tapped the box a couple times...
I then tried a spin cycle, and it didn't seem to do anything... so I tried pushing the metal box around a bit more, figuring that it could be a lose connection or something... and tried the spin cycle again...
This time it spun.
I ran about 3 loads of landry and it worked twice and didn't once, so I tried moving it a bit more (yes, with the machine off) with the piece of wood...
It's been about 20 months since I did this, and I will have the no-spin problem maybe once every two or three months. I haven't had to take the access panel off since early 2007, as it seems to be a very sporadic problem that I will reset the machine directly on spin and it will be fine.
Like I said, I know it sounds stupid... there has to be a bad connection or ground in there somewhere that moving the speed control around a bit would help... but it's kept the wash clean and has kept the wife from getting her new anodized washer that she eyeballs on each trip to Lowes... and hasn't cost me a dime.
Hope this helps.

My washer is doing the same thing. Washes fine, water drains fine but it will not do a high speed spin. I have had both front and back covers off to watch what is going on and the motor is not running at all during the spin cycle. Period. No belts slipping. I replaced the drain pump since I found some coins in it. That did not solve the problem. I replaced the control board since that had been suggested. No help. Ka ching. Ouch. I will replace the door switch and if that doesn't work I will bring in the experts to isolate the problem since it is electrical and will need diagnostics run. It is just over 2 years old and having all sorts of problems. I will not buy another Kenmore (made by Frigidaire) washer.

Do you hear if motor is running (an humming noise) ?if you can then It sounds like a
badly worn belt that slid on the tub (the washer succeed to spin-
depending on clothes weight in tub) . Open the rear panel, check for
belt status and if it really worn, replace it with a genuine belt from
Be aware you should disconnected power cable from the machine before starting work on it.
Come back if you need more help...
