I am trying to games on PS3 and cannot connect with friends. I believe this is because I have NAT Type 3 (closed) and I would like to change it to NAT Type 2 (moderate) but I do not know how.

Hi ..

The PS3 has 3 different NAT types. They are shown below.
Type 1: The PS3 is connected to the Internet without a firewall or router. No NAT issues.Type 2: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router which is configured correctly. No NAT issues.Type 3: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router that needs configuring.Ideally, you want to have a Type 2 NAT. However, a Type 1 NAT does not affect your game play.

First of all you will have to Disable the firewall in the Router / Modem

If you are using a Router ..

Then

Make sure that UPnP(Universal Plug n Play) is enabled
Enable the IP Address of the PS3 in DMZ

Or Forward the ports

Below are the TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded:

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658

Hope it helps

I cannot get my ps3 game to work. it says to consult my routers user manual to enable the setting in the games booklet. i cant because the manual has been lost. it requires a UDP port 9301. and i need to...

Hi,

You'll need to setup port forwarding on your router.
From a computer use an internet browser such as Internet Explorer.
Assuming the router is using default settings.

1) In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1
2) You'll be asked for a username and password. Username is 'admin' and the password is 'password', no quotations.
3) Click on 'Port Forwarding / Port Triggering' on the left side bar.
4) Click on the Port Forwarding radio button.
5) Click the 'Add Custom Service' button.
6) For Service Name call it something meaningful, such as 'PS3.
7) For Service Type choose 'TCP/UDP'.
8) For starting port and ending port use '9301'.
9) For server IP use the IP address of the PS3, you can get this in the PS3 menu under Network Settings.
10) Click Apply

UPnP is supported by your router. On the left side bar, click 'UPnP'.

I have a N belkin router and have a problem with playing my friend online on PS3. We can not seem to get the server to hook up on madden nfl 10 football. Is there some way to lift any firewall that maybe...

yup...you need to forward ports for that game in belkin router.... contact PS3 people and get the list of ports to be forwarded... then login to the router from any computer that is connected physically to the router by typing 192.168.2.1 in any web browser...goto virtual servers(password leave it blank)..type those port numbers and type your ps3 ip adress there and enable it... also enable dmz for your PS3 ip address in router.... and also disable NAT firewall in router....

PlayStation 3 keep getting nat type 3 when need type 2

Hi
I was having problems with my PS3 as well I did the following

updated firmwire

Also I assign static ip address on my PS3 and forward ports used by PS3 to static IP address of PS3 on routers firewall.

Ports used by PS3:
udp 3478
udp 3479
udp 3658
tcp.domain (port 53)
udp.domain (port 53)
tcp.http (port 80)
tcp.https (port 443)
udp.ssdp (port 1900)
tcp.amandaBackupInitiation (10080)
tcp.Jabber SSL/TLS (port 5223)
tcp.10075
tcp.10078
tcp.10079

If your still getting problems configure the PS3 to be in your DMZ.

DMZ will be under applications and gaming. Just look for that setting in your routers setup page and add your PS3 IP address to it.

I want to hook up my ps3 using my 595u sierra wireless air card how do i do it?

You'll have to set up "Port Forwarding" on your router.

Click here to see a picture of which ports to setup under "Port Forwarding" for your router and the PS3.

Here are the settings that you should use when you setup your PS3 with a static IP:

IP Address: 192.168.1.200 (Same as the one you used for Port Forwarding)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default router: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secendary DNS: 192.168.1.1

I have a Belkin Wireless router and I have a PS3

Actually you don't need to forward ports when playing online games. The router should automatically locate the ports for the game because it has UPnP function. Here's what you can do. Disable the port forwarding and DMZ that you set on the router. Look for the UPnP function of the router and disable, Save it. Enable it again, then save. Now power cycle your router. If you have Static IP on the PS3 network settings, try to set it first to automatic IP and automatic DNS.

Hope that helps.

Access your router's setup page and look for port forwarding option. You must know what port number to open and that is how to open the NAT. Go to portforward.com for more information on how to open port

What is portforwarding

You need to login to your router and go to firewall or virtual servers.  In there you can setup port forwarding.  The goal is to forward external (internet) traffic to a specific internal machine (your PS3).  You do this on a per TCP/UDP port basis and must specify the appropriate external TCP and/or UDP port and internal TCP and/or UDP port.  Sounds harder than it is.
Or you can setup your PS3 in your router's DMZ (Demiliterized Zone).  This sets up the router to forward ALL internet sourced traffic to a specific machine (your PS3).  This is the easier way to do it so you don't have to worry about specific TCP/UDP port numbers.

Help with edimax

port forward the ports used by the ps3 avoid others being firewalled, port forwarding allows connections through the router firewall on specified ports

TCP: 80, 443, 5223 and UDP: 3478, 3479, 4658. UDP: 3658 should also be opened for voice chat.

see http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm for instuctions for your router.

Assuming you have turned on uPnP and NAT in the router and that did not work?
