Radio in bathtub keeps tripping gfi

Like I totally don't get this one and its beginning to irritate me: Ok here goes, I put a radio in the bathtub and plugged it into the gfi so that way I don't get shocked. BUUUTTTTT... it is fine when I turn it on until I turn the shower on and then pooof it goes out and I always find the gfi tripped. It only seems to do it when it gets wet which is stupid cause the gfi is supposed to protect it from the electric so I think maybe the electrishun wired it wrong or its faulty or something. And I called him and complained about it but he acted like I was stupid and said I shouldn't have electrical thingys in the water. He doesn't want to admit he made a mistake and I just want to find some people who agree with me and are willing to back me up in that it isn't working like it should.

The electrician should not have insulted you with his attitude but the GFI trips when a ground fault is detected. The water &/or steam is creating that fault path and so the Ground Fault Interrupt trips to protect you. The GFI outlet is working properly. Note that a GFI outlet is not designed to trip many, many times and sooner or later will fail to reset. BUT:

The only type of radio to be used in a wet area is a battery operated unit. Any AC voltage equipment of any type should not be used near the tub or shower.

Good Luck!

Did you try an electric motor rebuilder? $500 seems too high to repair a motor. Motors have either a capacitor or dual windings to get them started and it sounds like yours has failed. Get the numbers off the MOTOR and call a motor rebuilder in your area for pricing.

Our hot tub keeps tripping the gfi breaker, but if we don't put it on a gfi then it works fine. How do you fix this

The GFI is sensing a fault, and tripping to protect you. If there is another GFI in the circuit somewhere then you could use that normal receptacle. I mean if there is a GFI in the main panel.

Kohler Whirlpool tub motor problem. Turn motor on and trips GFI. It looks like the GFI is wired right and suggestions

Unplug tub from GFI, does GFI hold, plug something else into GFI to see if it holds under load. If all is ok then make sure you have a good ground from the motor to the GFI and the polarity is good. If 120 vac black wire to gold post, white wire to silver post and ground to green. Check proper connections, including polarity and ground at tub junction box and at pump motor it self.

My American Standard Whirlpool does not turn on. I push the Power button and don't hear anything. Circuit breaker is on, anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Remove access panel make sure pump is plugged in some electricians put a GFI outlet under tub for motor make sure GFI did not trip. Next the switch is an air switch look for the hose going to switch is connected last you may need a new air switch which is common to fail

Hi, Are you unplugging the big black hard wire that goes under the evaporator coil in the freezer. If so, that is the defrost heater and it has gone bad. Please let me know if I can explain anything further.

Ground fault interrupt (GFI)

I have a Whirlpool Model AD$)DSR1 Dehumidifier, with similar issues. When plugged in where it was operating for three years with no problems, it would trip the gfci within 10 minutes. I have it out in the garage right now with all the covers off, and I've had it running on a heavy duty outlet for about a half hour now. The compressor is too hot to touch (ouch!), and the condenser coils are only cool, when they should be quite cold. I am ready to judge that one of two things has happened: Either the compressor is bad, or the refrigerant has leaked out of the system.
