Picture sometimes goes to zoom mode when changing satellite channels

I like watching my sony lcd tv in wide zoom mode. tv will be one year old in december. I started having problems about two months ago with the picture going to zoom mode when changing channels with direct tv satellite dish remote. I need to find out what the problem is.

Thanks

I'm assuming that you are using Sky ,because I've come across a few similar problems lately involving Sky(a software glich I think)
Go into the Sky set up menu (the services button on the remote)Press option 4 then 1 this should get you into picture settings.Check that this is set to 16:9 as it should be for your set.
Here comes the silly part ,change the settings to 4:3 L and save the settings exit the menu and then re enter it .Now change the settings back to 16:9 and save it and exit.
This should solve your problem

TV should still be in warraty, if this needs to be fixed, you should be able to get it repaired/replaced for free from the manufacturer

How do I change to 4:3 aspect setting on sony kdl40ex500

If the WIDE button on the remote control isn't changing the aspect ratios here is what I can tell you:

Normal is not available when you are watching a 720p, 1080i or 1080p source.
If 4:3 Default is set to anything but Off, the Wide Mode setting changes only for the current channel. When you change channels (or inputs), Wide Mode is automatically replaced with the 4:3 Default setting for 4:3 sources. To retain the current Wide Mode setting as channels and inputs are changed, set 4:3 Default to Off.
4:3 Default is not available if Auto Wide is set to Off.

The owner's manual can be found here: https://docs.sony.com/release/KDL32FA600-EX301-EX400-EX401-EX500-EX501.pdf

If you still can't get the aspect ratio to properly work you may need to do a power reset or perform a factory reset: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38403/c/65,66/p/61659,62766,63066/ Just make sure to note any special picture or sound settings you may have made.

On Sony 36 iinch Trinitron TV, when I go to HDTV channels the picture size changes to widescreen. How do I adjust back to full screen on HD? I tried the "no zoom" button but that doesn't work. Cannot...

Please note that all HDTV channels project wide screen pictures. You can still go to settings and then picture mode and change the format to 4:3/full mode.

Wide screen mode won't go back to "normal".

Was exactly what you said. The cable box settings were in wide mode. Couldn't figure it out at all. Funny thing was too.. on my cable box remote, the button under the #9 button is the # button.. it doesn't say zoom at all.. but it totally controls the zoom.

So thanks for that.. AND thanks for saying "under the #9 on the cable remote" instead of just saying .. the zoom button.

Thanks again!!!

On CNN or during football games banner is cut off

It sounds like you're watching wide screen content on a 4:3 tv, so the screen may be zoomed in so that the bars that would normally be on the top and bottom are not showing. Because the picture is zoomed in, images that would be at the top and bottom are off the screen. If you're watching from a home receiver (Uverse, DirecTv, Xfinity, etc.) you need to change the video settings to let the receiver know that your TV's aspect ratio is 4:3 (full screen) and not 16:9 (widescreen). Also, if your channel lineup has the option of watching CNN on a standard definition channel, that would also help because the shape of the image would be what your tv was designed for. If you watch 16:9 programs, you will have to choose letter box mode (bars on top and bottom because the shape of the widescreen image does not match the shape of your tv), pillar box mode (bars on either side) zoomed, or stretched. Stretched will make the shape of everything appear distorted, as it squeezes a widescreen image on the sides to make it narrow enough, so that everyone will have tall and skinny heads like an old Kung Fu movie. The sharpest picture would likely be to watch 16:9 (hi def) content in letterbox mode (bars on top and bottom) so at least you get the proper aspect ratio that the sports were recorded in, and it comes from a sharper source (HD vs SD). I would just deal with the bars, because even with a widescreen tv, there will sometimes be bars because that's how programs are sometimes recorded, for different visual impact or cinematic effect.

Yellow spot in lower right hand corner

You have pretty much narrowed it down to being a bad optical block. This isn;t good news, since the optical block is probably the most expensive part in the set. Your best bet is to contact Sony customer support to see if the will allow some kind of accommodation for the repairs. Sorry for the bad new; hope it doesn't effect the rating you give me for the solution. Thanks!

The TV is probably in Shop mode, when your TV is initially turned on you can choose between Shop mode or Home Mode.
In Shop mode the TV automaticly returns to the standard setting after a while, they do this so customers can "play" with it.

Press down de Volume button and then hold down the Menu button for five seconds on the side panel of the tv.

"Normal" picture option is gone

Have you switched inputs? Some sets when you are on component/ HDMI/DVI will only allow a couple of PIX modes, Antenna will usually allow you to use all of your modes, If you have a cable box they sometimes will also have format modes. Try switching to cable channel 3 (if you get it or have a box on that) and changing format, try a VCR or something if no cable ch 3.
