The machine is attempting a network boot. You need to enter your BIOS setup program and change the settings to disable network boot or set it as last in the boot order (depends on the specific BIOS of the machine).

  • ultimitloozr May 26, 2009

Is the network adapter built into the laptop or is it a PC Card adapter that is being used? If it is an adapter, try removing it and starting the computer without it. Another possibility is to change the amount of installed memory by adding or removing a SODIMM from the system and try booting again. Many systems don't like it when the amount of memory detected at startup and the amount saved in the CMOS don't match and it will prompt you to enter BIOS setup prior to attempting to boot the computer. This may allow you to get in there and change the boot settings.

PXE-E61 media failure check cable

PXE-E61 Error message showing due to Media cable failure.
You have to fix this media cable failure one must return to the BIOS screen at start up. Depending on the model of the laptop, press f1, f2, or delete to enter the BIOS screen (the computer will tell you what keys to press). At the bottom of the BIOS screen, there will be a menu. One of the options should be "setup defaults." By pressing the corresponding key, it will return all of your settings back to how they where originally.
Hopefully it will help you

It was working good all of sudden screen became black and the PXE E61

It seems to have lost communication with the hard drive. Check physically (pop out and then back in) and in BIOS. Make sure its the 1st boot option.

Also disable PXE boot in BIOS or remove from 1st boot option. This is a LAN (network) boot option.

Windows is working normally and suddenly the ideapad Y430 shows a black screen and the following error messages: Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v11.0.11 Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom Corporation Copyright...

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If this does not work then reboot and go to theBIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn'tdetect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to determine if thehard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files, this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

My Toshiba satlelite A105 will not boot up , comes up on screen black says pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable pxe-mof: exiting intel boot agent operating system not found

Go into SETUP (F2, DEL, Cntl-S or somesuch at boot time - or hold F1 key down and force and error and then change your BOOT order to CDROM, HDD. It is Currently NETWORK, CDROM, HDD or the like.

PXE is Network directed bootup, and your LAN connection is waiting or the proper code or instruction or server. You need to turn that off, and BIOS SETUP is where to do it ;-)

Hope that helps

Booting problems with acer laptop - no operating system found??

Hi,

PXE (pronounce Pixie) is an agent used to boot on to the network.

It's using the DHCP protocol to localise a server where the image of the OS is located

If, for any reason, the hard drive is not seen the computer will attempt to boot on the network controller.
This can be caused if the hard drive is missing, unplugged or corrupt, or simply by not having the boot order configured correctly.

When you start your laptops, press F2 repeatedly until you enter the bios set up, navigate to the boot order and make sure that the hard drive (sometimes listed as HDD....) at the top of the list.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anymore help.

Hard drive clicks + error appears on screen when turned on

I would check to make sure the hard drive is in secure and if it is I hate to say it sounds like your hard drive needs replaced.
