Shutting off the valves [typically] is not a hard task... yet, reaching these valves under the Kitchen sinks that are located in the "corner" of your kitchen can be very difficult to reach, esp. with a small door opening! Click this link to see how to obtain a solution to this common problem (I've used this and it is very helpful, especially if you have back problems!): http://prismreachingwatersupplyvalves.blogspot.com/
You will need a basen wrench ( a special wrench to tighten nuts that secure faucet to sink) and open end wrenches. First shut off both hot and cold water valves. Using open end wrench, disconnect hoses from valves. Now, you must loosen both nuts (under the sink towards back wall) Using the basen wrench. After removing nuts, lift faucet up

Ihad the same problem. It is not the screen. What you need to do is get a spray diverter the old one disintergated and is blocking the flow. You have to take the collar off and underneath is the diverter. This is after you take the ball and rings out.

Try removing the aerator on the faucet. If that resolves the popping sound, try replacing it with one that allows for a higher flow of water. (Also the existing aerator may be clogged).
