I have a Panasonic VCR (DMR-ES35V) and when you insert the tape, it does not thread the tape across the video head. The tape runs for a moment and then ejects.

There's either damage in the drive section, or more likely and in some cases "plus" the Mode Switch is set in the wrong position or is faulty. The mode switch tells the electronics what position the VCR mechanism is in. Such as play or fast-forward. If in the wrong place it will carry out other functions - such as eject - in your case.

How many motors are in the VCR section? example 1 motor for play, 1 motor for hi-speed rewind, 1 motor for hi-speed forward.

There are only 2 motors on the VCR sections.1 motor for the rewind backward and speed foward.1 motor for take in the VHS tape and eject the tape. The play button also used the same rewind backward and speed forward motor to push the film foward to the VCR play head head drums to play the tape.

F04 is "loading lock". most likely problem is that the timing of the gears in the tape loading mechanism is mis-timed.

VCR won't push the tape down

The tape load mechanism has a problem mybe a broken gear. If u want to repair it by yourself, removed the tape drive and look for a broken part. You should be able to come up with a part #. Go to: http://www.diyvcrparts.com/cgi-bin/web_store/web_store.cgi Check out your chassis by the model number. or like always call for service. Good luck!
