Ive got a acer extensa 3000 laptop, the fan has stopped working which is causing the laptop to shutdown straight afta booting, sometimes it will work fine on cold dayz until the cpu overheats and shuts it down again i want to know what component is faulty or if it is the fan itself that is broken, i have tried all tests posted by other techs but all useless, need a specific answear or how to find the faulty part
Before anything make sure the air vents are not clogged. You can used canned air to blow out the air vents to make sure there is no buildup of dirt or dust cause that can cause overheating problems.
Look to see if the CPU fan turns on at all during the whole bootup process. The CPU fan won't run all the time but as long at its turning on at all during the bootup process then you know the fan is good.
If the fan never turns on at all and the laptop gets very warm or hot and then shuts off then the motherboard is bad cause that means to much voltage is going thru the motherboard and it can't cool down properly.
Hope this helps. If you can't physically see the fan turn on then where the cpu fan is located put your hand there and see if you can feel air flowing thru, hopefully it won't be hot air but slightly warm.

Booting issues might be caused by power supply problems. If you plug in some other power cord, the laptop might turn on. This may be because the supply of power from the wall socket is not proper as per the needs of your laptop, or the cable that you are using with the laptop is damaged or broken from inside. You may try by changing the power cord or using another wall socket to power your PC. This can prove to be of great help most of the times.

It seems that your computer needs to have a reinstall of your original setup, because the driver that tells it to shut down is not cooperating. Hopefully you have your original dvd/cd.
try cleaning the vents. you can you a can of compress air to clean it. also when using the laptop make sure the vent is free from any obstruction. if you know how to open the chassis you might want to try cleaning the interior as well
If the laptop shuts down by itself and deosn't boot up again after some time, then the problem could be an over heating problem. The CPU shuts down when it overheats (thermal shutdown) and it is usually caused by a faulty fan and or the fan and heat-sink is clogged with dust.
Check the fan and if it does not spin freely then replace the fan and or remove the dust from the fan and heat-sink assembly.
if you want to shutdown your laptop automatically go to power option from control panel and from there you can schedule the time after using how many minute or hour you would like to automatically shutdown your laptop. Try it !! Good luck.
The overheating problem will cause the CPU to shutdown and it won't boot up again until it has cooled dowm.
The problem could be a faulty fan that has stopped spinning and or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
To fix the problem, remove and vacuum the dust from the fan and heatsink assembly, check the fan and if it does not spin freely, replace the fan.
