Re: Insignia NS-DV4G video player Cant connect via USB,...

I used the method that you use to update the firmware.
Turn off the unit ,,, slide it to HOLD. Then plug into the USB.
Seems to work every time for me .. Hope you have the same luck.
Strange that it has always worked until now ... same OS .. no updates since then ... But at least I can access it.
There is no driver I can find in the software bundle CD.

Re: Insignia NS-DV4G video player Cant connect via USB,...

Same problem as well, about a year old - it worked on 1 laptop (the owner also uses the same player) but refuses to work on my main machine (that its always used on) and any other machine or laptop I've tried besides the 1.

Hold doesnt do anything

Windows Device Manager says:
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device.

Glad I filled it up with 4GB of badass music, sorry for the guy with 30 tracks in the country :(

Re: Insignia NS-DV4G video player Cant connect via USB,...

What operating system do you use?  If you have Windows XP all you need to do is connect it and windows should detect it.  If it doesn't connect it activate the hold switch and connect it to your computer.  It should show up as a USB removable drive.  If that still doesn't work try a different USB cable.  After that I stuck.  As for the software I don't know where you can get a copy.  I looked at the insignia web site and it isn't available for download.  Since it is basically a modified version of Rhapsody you may try downloading the regular version of it and see if it works.  I use MediaMonkey and it works well.

Computer wont read my mp3 player wehn i plug it in?

To make it work you have to change it to MSC mode (Only for Windows XP and 2K, it somewhat technical so do it at your own pace and follow instruction:
  • Click on the Start button and Select Settings. Then click on Control Panel.
  • Double click System, and then select the Hardware tab.
  • Click on Device manager.
  • Click on the '+' for Portable device and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
  • Right click and select "Update driver".
  • A Hardware Update Window will open, Select "No, not this time" when windows asks to search for software. Click next. Check the "Install from a list or specific location" checkbox and then click next.
  • On the next screen select "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install".
  • Click next and then you will see a window showing two drivers that are compatible with your player.
  • To put the device into MSC mode select "USB Mass Storage Device" and click next.
  • A finish installing driver will appear and your device will now appear as a hard drive on your system.
  • To switch back to MTP mode, open the device manager as above and click on the "+" for "Universal Serial bus controllers" and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
  • Then follow the steps above until you reach the "Select the device driver..." screen in which you select "MTP device".
  • Then click next and your device will be reset back into MTP mode.
Make sure your insignia has the latest firmware, this i provide for you also here:

Hope that helps to fix it

Lost cd to insignia player 1gb

There shouldn't be any driver software on a CD for this player. If you need the Digital Music Store, go here:

If your computer is still able to recognize the player, you can still manually place music files on the player by switching the player to File&Folder mode.

I have a similar problem. It seems the only way to do this is use the Best Buy supplied program. Is anyone willing to release the playlist format so a converter can be created?

Cd software

Normally Insignia does not have the CD contents available for download as a whole since it is mainly Rapsody which is available separatly, and the video converter software is commercial software. So normally you would just download Rapsody if you need it. However, Insignia mp3 players can use the generic mass storage driver in almost any computer. When you plug in the USB cord, two extra drive letters will show up in Windows Explorer. Songs go into the Music folder. For neatness: Make new folder for each artist and under each artist, make a new folder for each album.
Also slight chance the USB mode got off of Automatic in the player's options.
