1 Answer

Window air conditioner unit frosts over and stops working.

My Amana Air Conditioner keeps frosting over and prevents the thermostat from taking accurate reads which basically shuts down the window unit. Only runs for 45mins before problem occures. Is this a problem with the unit or is it normal? Thanks...Bob

No a/c should frost over. I would look for anything that effect air flow. Check filters, fan speed, item too close in front of unit's air intake. or dirty coil (check both sides.) Anything that obstructs air flow will usually cause a freeze up. Only other thing, could possibly be an improper charge of refrigerant.

    Check it out.

COILS USUALLY FREEZE UP DUE TO INSUFFICIANT AIRFLOW ACROSS THEM. IF THE FILTER IS DIRTY, THEN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED IF IT IS DISPOSABLE, OF CLEANED IF IT IS A PERMANENT ONE. THE ONLY OTHER REASON FOR A FREEZING COIL IS A LOW FREON CHARGE. IF THE UNIT HAS A LEAK, AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEN RETURN IT TO THE MANUFACTURER. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

Air conditioner not blowing out enough cold air fan is working but frost is built up outside and in on lines

Sounds like the unit may be Short on refrigerant, the frost can be sign the refrigeration is taking place on the pipework between the indoor and outdoor unit and not on the internal coil (evaporator indoor unit)

All the best

Blowing of cold air every 5 minutes, and it says FP on the screen

FP is the code for frost or freeze protection. The unit will automatically do this periodically to prevent any damage caused by low temperatures although it should not be running as frequently as every five minutes. If the outside temperature is not low then it could either be a problem with the exterior thermistor (not the one you see from inside your room) or the control board could be on its way out.

High pressure air cond line has frost about 10 feet inside home

You have a low freon charge or a blockage in air flow. Check the filter if it is clean then there is a low freon charge in your system in which an a/c tech will be needed.

Good luck on repairs

Frigidaire air conditioner - no cool air coming out.

if you used it alot, i would check it for freon.
checkthe air filter, make sure it's not dirty.
check the front panel, make sure there's no "ice/frost" in the unit.

Amana window air conditioner 10000 btu

Mine has done this alot, mostly because I live in a state with ALOT of wind, and in an area with ALOT of dirt. Sounds like your coils are dirty. Try cleaning it out, or having it cleaned out. If you spray it with water just make sure your compressor is facing up and you don't use too much pressure. Hope this helps

Dehumidifier frosts up

A dehumidifier will often frost up if room temperatures are colder than about 65 degrees F. If your room temperature isn't this cold, airflow to the unit may be restricted or blocked entirely. 1) Be sure the unit is set far enough from the wall so that airflow isn't restricted. 2) Clean the evaporator coils. To do this, unplug the dehumidifier and take off the outer cover. Allow excess moisture to evaporate from the coils. Then, using a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner, remove all dust buildup. If necessary, cover the motor and electrical parts with plastic sheeting and spray with water.
